Who Are Shiva and Shakti? | The True Meaning of Shiv-Shakti

As Maha Shivaratri (Hindu celebration) is celebrated let us understand who are Shiva and Shakti? Guru Nanak tells us that the meaning of Shiv-Shakti (Ardhanareeswara) is a representation of a combination of all things in life, that the Divine is in all, birth and death, yin and yang, creativity and destruction. Lord Shiva the Destroyer (Purusha) and Goddess Shakti (Sati, Adishakti, Prakriti, Prakruti, Parvati) represent the interconnectedness of the world.

Shiva is known as the highest yogi, the Adiyogi, he came to earth to teach us this essential and powerful message - before we reach the limit of our life we need to connect to the unlimited life force within us.

As Hindus, we are taught to worship Sikh Gurus with just as much devotion as our Hindu Gods. Our parents taught us that Sikhs and Hindus are spiritually connected.

Interesting. Never thought in this direction. That analogy that death always revolves around therefore Shiva has a snake around his neck. I think deep down we can learn a lot from Hinduism. To understand life more, I had even downloaded Bhagwat Geeta on my phone.

I am a Hindu but my head will always bow down to all Sikh gurus, Jain tirthankars, and Lord Buddha.

1:50 - I made a whole painting on just this line from Guru ji's bani.
Interestingly, if you look at the crescent moon on Shiv ji's forehead, and then go outside at night, look at the actual crescent Moon. You will notice that Moon sits up there, up in the night sky, up on a black expanse, resting in the vast darkness of nothingness. Shiv ji is that Nothingness. A True Yogi knows this Nothingness, when he goes deep inside himself, and turns his mind away from the bodily senses, and into its Source.
