I remember hearing these sounds being explained as sounds reflected back from the atmosphere. They could originate as trains, construction equipment or a variety of other sounds that are reflected back from the atmosphere instead of just dispersing normally.

Heard this in Florida a year ago. It was about 2am, and this loud noise from somewhere in the distance blasted. I went outside to see what was going on, but I couldn't quite determine its direction. I never heard it before or after, Very strange. Some of the videos posted online are probably phoney. However, this noise does exist. What it is, I have no idea.

So many religious nut jobs on here. I'm an acoustician, My job is to work with noise and I can tell you it's not the end of the world. Although I cant tell you what the noise is specifically, the reason it sounds so weird is because of specific meteorological conditions. Air temperature varies at different heights, and sound waves will bend towards low temperature. This can make sounds from trains (etc) carry over large distances. It can also distort the wave shape, as certain frequencies will arrive before other ones. I've heard this dozens of times and it's normally train noise in valleys, or aliens.

But it is not just trumpet sounds. It is also rumbling like an earthquake, screaming like thousands of wicked spirits all together, roaring like a lion, moaning like a dragon in pain. You have just picked out the ones you wanted to. But all these other types of sounds are all right hear on YouTube as well.
