It's the "We don't want your child to be bullied, why do you?" law.

I like german naming rules
No children walking around as billboards

your first name can theoretically be gender neutral, the only condition is that you give the child a middle name that indicates the gender.

I see a lot of comments saying that this can be discriminatory because of some unique cultural names.
As a German, this is very unlikely. As long as you can explain the unusual name to the responsible offices, it's usually not a problem.

For example my sister has a very rare name, and when my father went to the office to get her registered, he brought the book that the name was inspired from with him, and it was approved.

It’s not a unique system applying only to Germany. They do the same thing in Denmark and no doubt in other north European countries.

Hello community! Just popping in to say that the religiously insensitive name example written in text in the video should be "Judas" and not "Jesus". "Judas" has been rejected as a name. "Jesus" has been allowed in recent years because it is a common first name in many Spanish-speaking countries, and through marriage and migration, it has become more common in Germany as well.

I went to school with a boy named "Gaylord." His life in school was not an easy one

At least this government wants kids to be able to get a job, not be ridiculed and have other people be able to pronounce their name.

In spain too, they don’t allow ridiculous names or names that could lead to bullying

This is in place on most European countries. Being a parent is not seen as a guarantee that you're a responsible person.

as a German, this naming system is very good, especially considering the child's welfare.
When I see American names like "hayleigh" and stuff and the internet, I can only shake my head because obviously it's a goofy name and can effect the child's life negatively.

Vespa actually is a girl name... So is Mercedes and many other names used for brands, they still can be used.

In the Netherlands you need approval too. I think it's a good thing.

Sooo Germany is doing it right? Caring about the child and not the parent’s weird obsession to be unique and special? Amazing

I hate the gender rule. I live in Latín America but my parents had to fight to be able to give me my name (Sol) because apparently it wasn’t “feminine enough”.
