The reason why you don’t have to play a single dollar is cause they take yen 😂

The reason why they're giving them away for free is that you technically have to renovate them, old houses are also not quite earthquake proof and there's superstitions of haunted spirits.

They are give it for free but there is a catch the government will charge you with tax plus the renovation cost of these houses are huge .

Totally awesome way of treating houses you live in... Because the house you don't rent out or use for income is a consumable house it's a consumer good.

Ask them to stop blurring the vital parts in the "motivational" videos. 😂😂. Population will increase automatically.

Yeah the empty houses are called akiya and usually they need lots of renovation and even they require rebuilding. The most important thing is even if you buy a house, they don't give you resident visa

not totally true it's just in province's and islands that are getting empty due to migration of people to big cities like Tokyo, osaka, okinawa ... and more and the rent in those cities are more than 45k-55k yen more like 30-40k for just a small room

Hey AevyTV,

I really enjoy your content and the effort you put into your YouTube channel. I've noticed your focus on Japan, which is great, but I think there's room for improvement in your research. While it's true that Japan offers houses, it's not solely due to a declining population. It's more akin to the situation we have in India.

People tend to migrate to major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Earthquake concerns are valid, but Japan has stringent post-1980s laws for earthquake-resistant construction. The key reason for the availability of these houses is often related to local government budgets, impacted by migration. In India, it's similar to states facing budget constraints.

Many inherited houses are left unused due to the burden of residence tax, approximately 10% of one's salary, regardless of the location or size of the house. As a result, some opt to let others use these houses through donations, helping both parties. However, it's essential to clarify that acquiring a "free" house often involves a substantial upfront payment during the transaction process, and it's not entirely without cost over the years.

Those house needs 100s of thousands dollars to make them livable 😅

You don't need to use "Dollar" instead of local currency to sound American.

The cost of sorting and dumping the waste is sometimes higher than building a new house that's why people are not into renovating. Many such properties remain empty even if they are Tokyo.
