The Strengths Based Approach - Experiencing Success In Meaningful Ways

Our vision begins with possibility. We see this as the starting point towards a process of understanding and experiencing a new way of being. The traditional approach that looks at where things have gone wrong and what needs to be fixed is limiting and ineffective in sustaining long-term change.

Through our consultation, training and assessment methods, we engage with you (individuals and/or organizations) to develop a strengths-based culture of practice where capacity is identified and nurtured towards positive change

By using a strengths-based approach, positive change is inevitable and your efforts are enhanced as individuals are meaningfully engaged and invested throughout the process.

At the start of 2012, I tutored a boy with severe social communication disorder: he hardly spoke to his parents, let alone with strangers. By waiting quietly, prompting him gently, and listening to his answers, I learnt about his (rather narrow) selection of interests. Next, by building on those interests horizontally, setting assignments in which he explored questions leading to new topics as extensions of his existing passions and wrote reports on what he discovered, he gradually gained confidence in many areas that he'd shied away from previously. He was fortunate that his parents did not expect instant results, because their patience bore fruit after six months when he wrote and delivered a successful speech for the position of school captain. He subsequently received an offer of a scholarship to one of the state's most prestigious private schools.

I appreciate the idea of turning from the traditional approach and instead beginning to use the strength-based approach, taking a - & making it a +.

This is an excellent video. As a social worker applying the strengths-based approach can be effective with service users. In addition, it can be 'linked' in with Robert Rosenthal's self-fulfilling prophecy. It also compliments the recovery model too.

If you walk in the ways as Christ instructed you don't focus on the deficit in people. You look on them with compassion and love. The Bible clearly teaches all to love one another. The world in its rejection of Christ has created this deficit-based model because it has no answer to the pain and suffering and in doing so is trying to use their own strength to heal the world. Why? it is because of this very intrinsic value and worth of human life that we care and we act to resolve so all may live well. In Philippians 4: 8 & 9 a wise instruction is given on what we should focus on. This video confirms the teachings of the bible.

Thank you so much for this video! It all seems to click and make sense now when trying to apply the theory to an actual practical situation.

this video is very helpful, the materials are well written and presented visually; the speaker is engaging and clear, one could only wish the prompter had been placed more in line with the camera so we were less aware of the fact that he was reading since he was so good maybe would't have been aware of it at all (see what I did there, already using what I learned from it!!!)

It’s a shame that someone can’t speak on this topic without so obviously reading from a script. It makes it sound so mechanical, unnatural and contrived while also suggesting that the speaker doesn’t even know the topic well enough to record a video that isn’t even 3 minutes long. Very disappointing. It’s only 3 minutes, at least make the effort of absorbing the content sufficiently to make it sound natural or get an actor to say it for you.
