Thanks for tuning into another newbie BattleTech video! In this video we take a birds eye view of the Great Houses of the Inner Shpere (and ComStar!). We give a very brief description of each house, Their colors, and list their most common BattleMechs as of the Clan Invasion (as listed by Total Warefare).

Pick Davion if you think RAC-5's are a great long range weapon system
Pick Kurita if you think Swords are an acceptable long range weapon system (Plus you get PPCs for if the enemy won't oblige your desire to behead them)
Pick Liao if you think a combination of LRMs and Arrow-IVs are the only sane long range weapon system
Pick Steiner if you believe anything that isn't an AC/20 counts as a long range weapon system
Pick Rasalhague if you're just glad you have some ammo for your long range weapon system
Pick Marik if the idea of your long range weapon system requiring ammo offends you
Pick Canopus if you love the Plasma rifle even more than the Capellans who invented it
Pick the Taurians if you think it isn't long-range unless you are breaking out the artillery rules from tacops, and that since you brought said artillery, it's going to fire even if you have infantry making a swarm attack on the only available target at the time.
Pick Comstar if you want to have Gauss rifles so you can actually try and compete with clanners at long range
Pick Marian Hegemony if you'd rather mount more 1-shot rocket launchers than carry any ammo for any other long range weapon
Play Tortuga or Redjacks Rebels if you watched pirates of the carribean too many times or drank a bottle of coruba before painting your mechs.

Paint them woodland camo and they can be whatever faction you want.

All other Great Houses: "Here are multiple aspects and traits associated with their culture and style of warfare".
Lyran Commonwealth: "Pick this faction if you find enjoyment in a powerhouse controlled by ineptitude."

Disregard all outside influences. Honor the Dragon. Glory to the Draconis Combine. Glory to the Coordinator.

_Pssst. We have, like, so many PPCs. And the most fun missile system in the game. C3 is pretty cool, too._

Also, for FWL Mediums, it's the Hermes II. The Hermes is a light 'mech, the Hermes II is the surprisingly good medium.

Some notes on the Free Worlds League: Another inspiration of theirs is Austria-Hungary of WWI. Also they actually contend with Stiner for top economy, as, while the Commonwealth makes many more of the bigger mechs, the FWL makes the most Jumpships out of all the galactic nations, which is much more vital to the continuation of galactic civilization.

Note about Davion. Don't get the wrong idea about the being the settings "good guys."

Planetary dukes still get the final say in all government decisions. Each system is still a monarchy, after all. Also, while they are economically prosperous, that fades the further you get from Terra and the March capitals. Some of their frontier systems have been stuck with lower standards of living than 50s America.

Another big note, is the Taurian Concordat border. Many of those systems have absolutely no personal freedoms at all for their citizens, and will be subjected to the horrors of completely unrestricted warfare. This includes frequent warcrimes and atrocities.

The final note, is that the Federated Suns is a fiercely expansionist state. They will not pass up opportunities to expand their reach, and will rescind the rights of any world's that resist.

Save yourself the trouble & pick the Free Rasalhague Republic. They get a significant upgrade after the Clan invasion. Remember, Ghost Bear conquers all.

A point of order, but the Chancellor is actually an elected posting, with the Chancellor being selected from Prefectorate. The only reason it's always a Liao these days is a holdover from Star League when House Cameron said that the Cappies could elect whomever they want but the League would only do business with a Liao. Granted in the 2400s a Liao did also make it a lifetime appointment. The chancellorship was originally just a 10 year term of service and then a new chancellor gets elected. Would be fun if Danai brought that back, but that's not likely to happen.

i love military incompetence so much that I paint my Lyran commanders stupid parade colors with the rest of the company being proper camo, and then only give skill advancements to the lights and mediums (that survive)
