Braking Resistor Connection in VFD. Why we Use Braking Resistor In Drive? Braking Resistor Working in VFD. How Braking Resistor works?

Braking resistors are used for applications where the motor speed exceeds the speed that is set by the variable frequency drive (VFD) or when fast deceleration is required. They can provide controlled braking to motor. If the rotational speed of the motor exceeds the synchronous velocity from the VFD, it will act as a generator. The extra voltage will be fed into the VFD and increase the voltage on the DC bus.If this Voltage does not control proper way it can damage the VFD.

It is important to select correct size a braking resistor. The lower ohm of a resistor, the faster it can stop the motor and the more heat it generates. To compensate this the resistor must be big. The designer calculates the power of the resistor to sustain under the temperature limits during braking.

Hello, I have a problem with my module and braking resistor, I hope you can help me, my module has the "ACT" LED always on, and I already burned the resistor, I changed the resistor for a new one but it always overheats, so I better disconnected the entire braking module, measured the voltage between the positive and negative connectors of the resistor and it always shows me 350V DC, even if the motor is stopped, it shows that voltage.

Do you have any idea what it could be?

Hai sir. 3 phase vfd not maintain the RPM. We saw the dc Link voltage is only 290 but other same Vfd are showing 590. It shows the error and the machine are not running.How I can increase the dc Link voltage?

When we give only input supply to vfd ACS800 used for EOT crane application, blast occur inside vfd and demage SCR and IGBT, although we do not give run command. What is the problem???
