Sorry for the bad sound. It was recorded with the MIC input on a phone.

Checking to see if the Sound Chips in the Thinkpad T22 has Sound Blaster or Adlib compatibility. If so, how does is sound?

I am in search of a good laptop for dos games. And now after watching, thanks to you, I have made my choice. I will look for.

I have a T22 and T23, its such a shame Soundblaster capability was dropped from the T23, ive got loads of dos games but never get any sound from them on the T23 mostly its a garbled mess, this is why I bought the T22, dos games work absolutely fine on that machine and if some games run way to fast you can slow the system down in the bios menu, i had to do this with Heimdall and fx fighter they were running at crazy speeds.

I could actually live with the less than ideal sound capabilities under DOS games (at least it has some kind of Sound Blaster emulation, unlike the T23 and other newer machines), my main disappointment is with the lack of proper resolution scaling on the T22.

Not sure if there is an option somewhere hidden, that I am just missing, but I can't find a way to play old DOS games full screen in the correct aspect ratio.
Not only there is massive black bars surrounding the displayed content during DOS games, but what's even worse, the black bars are massively different in size horizontally and vertically, so the content has a messed up sort of wide screen aspect ratio. And this issue is not consistent either: Commander Keen 4 and Stunts have this problem, but Need for Speed (the original first one) has a correct aspect ratio, and only very narrow black borders around the game area.

Is there any way that I could fix this problem? What's strange is that I also have a Thinkpad A21e, which displays everything full screen perfectly well, correct aspect ratio, no black bars. but that one has only pc speaker during DOS games, no Sound Blaster emulation at all. Also for some reason Commander Keen 4 has a really jerky screen movement when the background is moving. I wish I could combine these two machines to make one perfect laptop for DOS and Win 95 98 gaming.

EDIT: I just noticed at 9:13 you have the same aspect ratio problem with the black bars. So I guess this is as good as this system can handle it. So disappointing.

Hi Erik, I started installing W98SE on my T21 and it should have the same sound capabilities as T22 as the same drivers are listed for it but none of the drivers work for me. One of them installs but it's missing some files that are supposed to be in the Windows install cd but it's not found. How is the installing of drivers from the install cd supposed to work as it never finds anything from there?
