Woman flees with dog that fatally mauled a family pet in Vancouver park

A Langley, B.C. family wants justice after they say their family pet was mauled to death by an allegedly off-leash dog whose owner fled in the aftermath.

A.J. Tay, his wife and their children were on an outing to Second Beach with their dogs, including their multipoo named Sky.

Tay was taking a work call when he heard his wife and children screaming behind him.

When he turned around, he saw Sky clenched in the jaw of a much larger dog.

I can’t believe no one has turned her in yet. Her face is clearly shown! Somebody turn her in!! She’s irresponsible for not leashing her dog AND she’s awful and cowardly for running away. Certain breeds of dogs have huge prey drives and are easily stimulated. As a dog owner, she should know this. Her dog must have exhibited similar behaviour before, and if not, she should still know this can happen given her breed of dog. I blame HER for not taking the necessary precautions, for not caring about the safety of others. Today it’s a dog, tomorrow it could be a kid. My heart hurts for this family. It’s awful this happened and to witness it in front of you is so traumatic. Dogs are our family members.

Off leash? Incredibly irresponsible. The dog could easily have attacked a child.

I am so sick and tired of people walking their dogs without a leash & then say "my dog is friendly" or it's "just a puppy". Keep your dogs on a leash unless it's a dog park etc!

I work at a dog hotel and 80% of people should NEVER own a bigger breed dog.

Oh this poor man’s anguish just broke my heart! That woman, if she’s the actual owner, deserves charges on this. To not have your dog leashes out in public like that, it’s a complete shame. This death was completely preventable.
