If the car is on but not started (accessory mode) you can lock the car with the keys in. It happened to my wife and I brought her the spare key. Haha!

dude... You made an 8 minute video, to tell us the the trunk has a push button to open it like most cars have, and it took you over 4 minutes to get to that part?

If you remote start your car and leave the key inside the cabin it'll lock the keys inside happened to me in my 2017

I think the base model has an actual turnkey ignition switch without a smart key. Maybe that’s how he locked his keys inside

The “switch inhibit” function is (or was) turned off.

He possibly had a low battery. Key fobs lose functionality when battery is low.

So here's a story and a plausible reason how he could've locked his keys in the trunk. My wife and I were on a drive with my local mustang club last fall and we stopped for gas. When I got back in the car and hit the start button a warning popped up and said "no key detected". I tried it several times with the same result. I had to pull up the cup holder mat and place the fob on the slot for it to start. Next time I tried to start it was fine and it's never happened again. I don't know why or what caused it but maybe that was his issue as well?

That feature had saved me a few times when I have put my keys in my jacket, and then taken my jacket off and left it in the car. But I haven't left the keys in the trunk yet. I could see it not working if the fob battery is weak, and then the sensor in the car might not detect it. Or if the key is dropped into something that shields it, or even if a phone is in the pocket of say a jacket, right next to the fob. I've had the car not detect my fob if my phone and fob are in the same pocket. I guess it blocks or scrambles the signal. Then I have to fumble into my pocket and remove either my phone or keys to get into my car.

I agree that everything goes wonky when the battery is low. My 2019 basically had an electrical aneurism and the locking on just one side of the car became intermittent, which also drained my battery. So if the person that locked their keys in the car had a low battery or intermittent electrical issue, I could see the trunk not opening the way it should. By the way, I didn't know about this feature. Great tip! Also, did you replace the lifting struts in your trunk? Your trunk lid really flies open, despite the added weight of the spoiler.

Maybe the car was on and he hit the lock button from inside but even then it would unlock since the door would be open. Idk can’t think of anything

My trunk does not lift up automatically like that. Is your spring adjusted?

Nice video. Figured this is how it worked but never tryed it. Question though: when I stop somewhere and run inside or get gas I always have the keys in my pocket, when you get out of the car the horn beeps and is annoying and embarrassing.. can you make it stop doing this? It is soo annoying lol.

See what happens if you throw your keys in the car then lock the car from the door switch.

Having a 21 Mach one does the same as yours so my guess is perhaps the keys are in an RF wallet.
