How Howard Stern became a new man

Over the past 13 years, Howard Stern helped SiriusXM satellite radio grow from a fledgling experiment into a 33 million-subscriber empire. But Stern, who made a name for himself as a potty-mouthed shock jock, has evolved - as a celebrity interviewer and as a person. He talks with Tracy Smith about his new book of interviews, "Howard Stern Comes Again"; his psychotherapy; a health scare that demonstrated he "wasn't Superman"; and how he and his wife are guardian angels to a thousand rescue cats.

One of his biggest regrets should be turning his back on people who fundamentally help him build the show like Jackie, Billy West, Gilbert and Artie.

Stern became a new man when his bank account got large enough.

He has become the Hollywood type that he rallied against for 30 years. He made fun of the Hollywood celebrities now he celebrates them.

It must have killed Howard to interact with his employees, and walk around his own studio hallways for the purpose of this interview.

It’s so transparent and self serving, it’s sickening. Of all the times he’s done blackface, violently dehumanized transgender people, exploited handicap people, objectified women and pretty much opened up the floodgates to normalizing offensiveness, he doesn’t just get to walk away from all of that. He hurt a lot of people, either indirectly or direct, he doesn’t deserve happiness or success for the hate he’s exploited.

Love Howie, but I personally prefer when they have "extraordinary ordinary" people on the show as opposed to celebrities.

Howard looks like a cross between Richard Simmons and tales from the crypt.

For 20 years I was on of his superfans and barley missed a few minutes of the show. I forced my work to change the companies production hours just so I could listen to the show. Got me through some really tough times so I don't want to bash him too much but once he got remarried and hooked up with the getting things done girl he completely changed. Money and fame sadly finally got to him. Still listen to his older shows almost daily since I have almost every show from 1992-2010 on tape.

I think Howard is one of the smartest people in the media, most honest, and an innovator! Love his show on Sirius, hes the only reason I subscribed.

He says, "my whole career has been about honesty." But sounds more about egomania.

You just exposed, by letting us know that CBS owns the publishing company that produced this book, that this “interview” is nothing more than a giant advertisement.
