He was from Hartford, Connecticut.
He is the first to invent the pistol and is the founder of the Colt Arms Industry
Upon his return to America from Britain, he applied for a US patent for the "revolving revolver".
The patent was granted on February 25, 1836.
This made the production of pistols commercially viable.
