I love that Romeo values what’s inside that counts bc poor Juliet has a face only a mother could love.

They are so cute and adorable. I know the parents are great people. However, I am so sad after I learned that this species of cat has so many health issues because of their face structure. I know several popular dogs who are human modified also have serious health issues, too. I hope science doesn't cooperate in this area. I am so sorry I am not trying to hurt any cat lovers as I have my own two cats.

What kind of cats are Romeo and Juliet?

Lotta love for their faces but y’all it’s a literal deformity we’ve bred into them to make them more “cute” to us. No hate, I was given a Persian cat when I was a kid, & she was my baby, but maybe we should rethink breeding cats that struggle to breathe and often are born with congenital deformities like severely cleft palates. Same for dogs. I think frenchies are ridiculously cute but their quality of life is often super low. A lot of breeds looks came about from Victorian era Aristocats playing around with breeding. The quest for perfect dogs has led to breeds being super unhealthy. If you’re determined to have a certain breed of dog or cat and can’t find one to adopt, please find an ethical breeder who prioritizes the animals lifelong health and quality of life. It’s expensive but if you love animals wouldn’t you want to support their ultimate happiness.
*Especially with dogs you can find almost any breed from rescue groups. My kid is severely allergic to dogs with fur so we have to have breeds with hair instead. My fam found a full breed standard poodle puppy in rescue. We then adopted the most adorable senior Poochon -rip my little queen-, and now we have some sort of mutant Bichon mix. (We love him but he’s got to be one of the craziest mixes ever, but for us the most important thing is we rescued him and he doesn’t give my kid eczema. I’m also partial to scruffy, silly looking dogs.) But while looking for a new dog I saw so many breeds. Even Mexican hairless. Even with cats if you invest the time and energy you can find specific breeds, tho it is a lot harder.
