This brings back memories. South Plains Electric Cooperative once had an experimental power unit on our property that ran a helicopter turbine off of natural gas, to power a grid. It was designed by a man in Minnesota who built these things, and worked in conjunction with Texas Tech University. They had a couple of these experimental units in operation in our area. It was housed in a specially built shipping container with special air filters to handle the west Texas dust. When it ran it was LOUD. They could hook a laptop up to the thing, and do anything with it. It could even be remotely started and often was once they got all the kinks out of it.
