Southwest flight has near miss with private jet on runway at Chicago airport

Southwest Flight 2504 had a near miss with a private Challenger 350 jet after the smaller plane crossed in front of the commercial flight attempting to land at Chicago Midway International Airport on Tuesday. The pilot of the Southwest plane aborted the landing and pulled up before going around and landing safely.

Great pilot of landing jet. Heads up. Small jet was not only crossing without authorization, but crossed against directive to stay in place, to not cross middle runway.

Similar thing happened to me flying into Charlotte, NC airport around 20 years ago. Wheels almost touched down before pulling up and doing an extreme banking turn to come back for a 2nd landing. Dead silence in the plane while everyone wondered what was happening. After 5 min on the tarmac, the pilot came on and said that another plane was taking off on the same runway and he did not feel there was a safe enough distance between us and them.

What a close call! Thank goodness the pilot was alert and took off again. If federal employees are not reinstated, no plane should be in the air. Pilots and airport employees should go on strike until matter is resolved.

These private jets are a problem, over and over you hear them causing some kind of an issue or crashing. There needs to be better regulation and training for private jet pilots.

W Pilot !!!! The Southwest pilot that is . L to the Private Jet pilot. The entitlement of people almost caused and caused so many accidents. I have almost been hit several times driving and even though I would have right of way the other car would just not stop !! I always have to be the one. This here seems to be a similar situation. Glad everyone is okay.
