I started with 3D in 1995. Using Autodesk 3D studio release 4. It was a Dos program and so you could not switch to other apps while working in it. The interface was flat and in grey and blue shades. There was no internet where you could download tutorials or info and you were really limited in what you could do, but it was amazing. Shading was really hard and you had to fake everything. Yet, I create amazing stuff (for that time). I should try to use it again (still have a copy somewhere). Hope it will run in DosBox.

... this men was ahead of his time ... he already using a thing like graphic tablet with a sensitive screen and at 07:55 he was using something like a vr set head with augmented reality, i mean to this day not all programs support Vr .

1:08 That input device is called a “light pen”. It sends a pulse when the CRT beam passes directly under it. That’s how the computer tells where it is pointing.

I was quite a bit blown away to see stuff like this existed in the 60's! And a bit more blown away when I saw the VR HEADSET!
Someone should preserve this bit of history by either getting one of these computers to work again or make a downloadable representation that uses a digital drawing tablet as the screen pen. and I have never seen any software that automatically corrects lines for you to make a perfect box shape.

After learning the history by watching this video, I feel like a True 3D Artist 🤓. Thx Man 🤝

1:02 Notice the flicker? That’s a calligraphic display, a CRT where the electron beam is not tracing out a raster, instead it is tracing out the actual lines of the graphics.

The Sketchpad was the ancestor of the iPad - pure genius to think you could draw like an iPad all those years ago.

Excellent video, I assumed the first 3d software was blender 2.79.

Hey bud. You have previously uploaded videos for vfx plugins. I am thinking about taking a software for fluid sims. The three most popular plugins for fluids are pheonix fd, realflow and fumefx. I don't have any problem of budget. What you recommend me to use fume fx and realflow or pheonix fd.?

9:28 Jim Blinn was also responsible for squashing the teapot to make it look more like Aladdin’s lamp.

Interesting stuff. I wonder how long it took to render the teapot.

2:23 No it wasn’t. The GUI originated from Xerox PARC. Sketchpad needed special training before you could use it.

Yeah that was me travelling my future past 😅

You've got the guy's birthday wrong. It couldn't possibly be 1986 if he was working on things in the 60's.
