My cousin's husband is Italian and he taught us this as kids using an Italian deck.

2:27 If you're playing with Italian-suited cards, use coins in place of diamonds.

2:36 If you'd rather not memorize or look up how to score the prime, you can instead give the prime point to the player with most 7s followed by most 6s if both players have two 7s each. Italians and purists may frown upon that rule change, but children and casual card players will find it easier to grasp.

The version I got for a Christmas present one year is a specialized deck, but it is the same game you talk about here. It just uses the numbers 1 to 10.

This scoring system for the Prime is unnecessarily complicated. In family games of Scopa we just add the face values. Some families, quite like this system, just give th Ace a value of 5, 5. In my family and my whole region though, the ace is worth just 1.
