Friends, today I'm going to teach you a very simple way of remembering the Ten Commandments and remembering them in the right order. You will never forget it by the time you finish this video. At the end of the video, I'll give you three reasons why we must know the Ten Commandments.
So let's start—remember the actions.
The First Commandment: "I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange gods before me."
It's simple, one finger for one God.
The Second Commandment: "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain."
How do we remember it? The second commandment is against your lips, so do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
The Third Commandment: "Remember to keep holy the Lord's day."
Your three fingers make the sign of the cross.
The Fourth Commandment: "Honor your father and your mother."
Your four fingers represent honoring your father and mother.
The Fifth Commandment: "You shall not kill." So, five fingers—ah!
The Sixth Commandment: "You shall not commit adultery."
Your six fingers form a V, remembering V for marriage vows.
The Seventh Commandment: "You shall not steal."
You have your seven fingers, and you're stealing from others.
The Eighth Commandment: "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."
So, eight fingers up like this, symbolizing you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
The Ninth Commandment: "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife."
Nine fingers, and this is your neighbor's wife, and you're running after her.
Finally, the Tenth Commandment: "You shall not covet your neighbor's goods." Ten fingers represent taking all your neighbor's goods.
And so, once you learn this, you'll never forget the Ten Commandments.
Now, why should we know the Ten Commandments?
The first reason is that the Ten Commandments are a response to God's love for us. God loved us first, and we respond by keeping the Ten Commandments.
The second reason is that it’s a way to live a happy Christian life.
The third reason is that it’s a beautiful way to examine our conscience or prepare for confession.
May Almighty God bless you: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Have a wonderful day with Jesus.
