The Benjamin Franklin Effect | The Science of Love

In order for a relationship to be successful, both partners need to feel invested. This theory was proven by the one and only Benjamin Franklin, who stated that the more time, effort, or work you put towards a person, the more you're personally investing in them and the more you want it to work out. In this episode, we put real couples to the test to show you how it works.

This experiment gives a mind-blowing insight into the mind of teenage fangirls that fawn over famous boybands etc.
They invest SO much time and effort into these people that of course their love for these people grows, and some are often surprised when they meet their celebrity love and the said celebrity doesn't instantly feel the same about them. It's because they've never been INVESTED in the fan their meeting. They haven't spend time pondering over them, among other obvious things such as initial attraction towards the fan etc. This video has helped me make sense of that and the mind of fangirls in that way so THANKS soul pancake, you're the best

I call it mutuality rule. It's not only about contributing to the happiness of your partner, but it's also about respect, gratitude, care, freedom, rights, and almost everything. One-sided things won't work in marriage. They got to be mutual.

Love should always be mutual--and when it is not it should always be thoughtful. To love another and not be loved back is still a wondrous thing: no person chooses how or who they feel for and this type of feeling should always be said and expressed for it is always worth saying and expressing.

All I desire in this life is for us to face the truths of our reality, our mortality, and our humanity for all that it is--so that we may become the truest humans possible. I talk about philosophy and societal topics that pertain to this endeavor. That is all, no more no less.
May we always progress and may we never stop learning from each other. Good day to you all :)

Thank you Julian, and everyone who were a part of this series to make it happen. Because of this video and others in the series, I chose to let someone know how i really felt about him. I was suuuuper scared; I was afraid he would never write to me again, or he'd say he only wanted to be friends but then our relationship would turn super awkward and crumble to dust. Or the world would explode, or something. But now i'm sooo exciiited! Because it turns out he loves me too!!! <3 <3 And, now we have a chance go get a little closer than we were before, and he's interested in that. <3

damn this is the mistake i always make. i invest so much and get hurt when the other person isn't willing to invest anything. if i say that i am unhappy because they are not contributing, then i am made out to be the bad guy. i always get stuck with non-committal jerks that think its OK to take advantage of someones heart.

There were plenty of comments complaining about the legitimacy of the "experiment" and it's important to recognize these videos don't believe they have solidly and flawlessly proven anything. I think it's to get people thinking by using cutesy psuedo-science techniques to get a positive idea out into the world. I Love these videos! Very inspiring and motivating.

I love these types of videos that make me realize the simple things. In my past relationship I never let my other half contribute and would always insist on paying things but I learned my lesson after watching this. Thank you Julian you really are a good guy and hope you find the love you deserve. :)

This was sincerely very helpful to me. It was a really beautiful video, and one day I hope to be like that couple about to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary ☺

This makes sense. Relationships are all about give and take. If one person doesn't do anything to build the relationship they won't see it as important and valuable.

I actually have been rejected and cheated on many times, and now I actually understand why. (I give too much and don't receive enough)
