World First Flying Radar Station #shorts

The AN/APS-20 was the world's first AEW radar. Tests showed the airborne radar could detect aircraft as far as 100 miles away. However, the only carrier-based aircraft large enough to mount the APS-20 radar and its eight-foot antenna was the TBF Avenger torpedo bomber designed by Grumman, or more specifically the TBM model manufactured by General Motors.

My dad was on a tin can and his ship was the last one sunk by kamakazi. The USS CALLAGHAN DD792. He got to swim while bleeding for a while until everyone in the water could be picked up. Only problem? Shark infested water. The Assistant Engineer was the last of the ship. He told me at a reunion That when he jumped into the water, he landed on a shark. He was still having nightmares of that incident at his telling of the story to me. Thank you "greatest generation".

Hears: “see combat.”

The Commonwealth fleet were operating as Kamikaze defence. They destroyed 100s stopping them getting the US invasion fleet. Several Commonwealth carriers were hit by Kamikaze but they had armour decks so just carried on operating

TBF is a Grumman built bomber, the TBM was the same bomber made by General Motors, so AEW version TBM-3W would be a GM built aircraft.

My dad survived that on a destroyer God bless him. People that ask how the US could ever justify incinerating 110, 000 + Japanese with atomic bombs need to see this vid. Approximately 12, 281 Americans died just in the battle of okinawa. Many many times more would have died attacking mainland japan. This was a war America did not start but damn sure finished and then gave untold millions in post war aid to japan.

Both of Nazi and Japan didn't change their pin cord even though their pin cord had been revealed to Atlantic America Alliance.
Did they overestimate their pin cord?
