Fragrant Tea Olive in 2 Min - Osmanthus Fragrans - In this video I go over Osmanthus Fragrans (Tea Olive). It is a large growing evergreen fragrant showering shrub that makes a great screening plant or specimen plants. I didn't mention in the video that it can also be tree-formed. It is deer and drought resistant as well.

I really appreciate your turning the plant like that and giving us a birds eye view :)

You are not kidding these are fragrant! I have a volunteer olive shrub and I can smell it down the block from my house in the springtime. I don't know what kind of olive it is. It blooms only in the spring. They grow wild around here ( Northern VA ) and one just popped up in the yard. Over the years several more volunteers have cropped up. Love 'em!

As an adult, I find out the tantalizing and nostalgic scent I smell every spring, at the park, is Osmanthus Fragrans. The smell can really carry sometimes too, in a wonderful way. My osmanthus plants don't like nitrogen very much though, and seem to prefer medium full sun.

My local nursery sells these and we are really wanting to use these as a privacy hedge ever since we smelled them! We are in zone 7a so we are a little concerned but we are going to probably go with some 40 gallons that seem to be well started. We had to cut down our Leyland Cypress trees that were damaging our retaining wall so I’m anxious to get these going and get privacy again!

I live in Ga. I have 5 or 6 of these trees in the backyard of the house that we bought last November. I have yet to experience this famous smell everybody talks about. The trees got frost damage in Dec and Feb and lost all leaves and new growth in Feb got burned too, so still- now end of April don't look or smell good. Not impressed at all as of now.

Thanks Jim for info on this plant I was not familiar with. I'm in DFW area zone 8a and looking for a replacement for a dying hedge row of Red Tip Photina- would this be a good choice?

Chlorogenic acid and Vitamin C in the scented tea can make the skin become exquisite, white and glossy.

Could this shrub be used as a wind screen in a horse pasture. Nestled up by a covered structure.

My tea olive tree has spouted out red leave like clusters out of its green leaves? Never have I seen this before?
