We usually go home in the middle of a pay period once the truck payment and whatever is covered. That way we don’t go into the negative because it is covered on the first portion and we have time for a load on the week we come back. That’s been working pretty well

Golden rule! Never take hometime if you can’t afford to pay for it. I’ve been home for two weeks with no worries. Heading back out in the morning. Speaking for lease operators of course. Nobody wants to waste time running out of the hole. That makes you miserable

I usually stay out 6 weeks and make sure I have enough to cover household expenses while I catch up on the truck note then go home for about a week. I'm usually in the hole for the first week.

Find the right balance between the road and home. Working hard for your family is a noble thing, however not so much if you are never there to enjoy them. Those at home wait patiently for the precious short time you will be with them. Money is a thing, but it isn't everything. It isn't going to replace you being there. Add to that the physical and mental burn out of being in the truck and on the road everyday without a chance to get out and enjoy life, family and friends, the adventure you signed up for quickly becomes just another job.
