Latest video: "I ANALYSE MY OWN STROKE"
This is Feedback Friday #21. Keeping your the shoulders up near the side of the face gives you a better engagement to do the lats to pull through.Dropping the shoulders gives you a weaker posture and doesn't allow more strength on the stroke.
If you are struggling with putting your shoulders up, this video is perfect for you.

Just recently I was super happy about a 12sec PB on 400m (7:22 > 7:10). Then I watched this, listened carefully and experimented in the pool the next day. Without even trying too hard I did a 6:58 400m !! Love it!

WE are totally in agreement! I would have the exact same narrative. I have been coaching all levels and all ages for over 30 years. How did you get so smart so young?

Very nice explained - it's understandable and easy to correct the mistakes in the pool. I've worked hard and worked it out to reach your ankles of the shoulder and arms and now I glide nice and much faster and the drag is reduced as much...You are so helpful and its a great pleasure to wait for the next video.
My geatest impact is the result: a shorter session of training but more effektive of working step by step on each mistake to an effortless swimming.

Im a little bit late to comment, but mayby someone still reads this. I saw quite some Thriathlets in swimmtraining. And the root of his problems is his bad flexibility. Because of all the running the muscles in his feet are shortend, so he swimms literaly with contracted feet. Which causes drag and the drop of his leggs and causes bad propulsion. you can keep your legs up with much less effort. His upperbody has bad flexibility too, thats why his shoulder drops and he overrotates and he looses balance, to compensate that his legs shift from the center. Increasing flexibility is hard and no fun but its importend. I cant see it in this video, but a lot of triathets try to have a high elbowposition in the recovery phase, which is good and energy saving etc., but without good flexibility it causes the other shoulder to drop and rotate the body to much.

very nice and deep analysis with the slow motion video. i used to think body rotation can help to swim with less effort. Now i need to try different ways to catch a longer breath~

Watching his kick, he has what I am starting to call 'runner's foot''. His ankle is flexed 20 or so degrees during just about all of the down kick. At best, this puts all the energy straight down, and when going below the body center line actually generates negative thrust... Oh, I am still trying to get better at that. 90% of the swimmers I see in the pool do this in freestyle, but almost none do it with back stroke...

I have almost the same problem - over-rotating, but i do this because i consume a lot of oxygen when i do sports and if I do not over-rotate, I choke with the water. And that is why I take the head out of the water and keep the legs low in the water.
Guys, are there any drills for breathing and how not to choke?
