Scrapchat 69, 4th May 2022 (May the Fourth be with you ;) This weeks theme is Moulin Rouge; I'm stripping in my shed but it is ALL about copper, glorious copper cable! I show you the weights & measures a.k.a the numbers on whether it is worth stripping certain types of cable or not and demonstrate before and after weights and prices. Some cords actually lose money by being stripped in todays good prices! Of course this is a Sollers video, so I also have some Sollers style mischief along the way, but.......I also get a horrible injury, the type that many have been in fear of!!

If you are new here, I can't currently commit to a regular livestream due to my daughters complex needs so I do a regular weekly Wednesday night scrap chat premier as a way of chatting and keeping in touch with you guys whilst showing what I've been up to during the week.

I also am a bodycam girl, it isn't for everyone, if you get dizzy or seasick them bodycam isn't for you! I've tried a tripod on my bench but it just isn't practical, I don't have the space, hopefully when I get my bigger workshop next year I can set up a tripod and lose the bodycam, but for now I work with what I've got!

I'm fully licenced for my area and ask prior permission for items inside skips and so far nobody has ever said no, they want the extra space :) I still do quick dives to avoid passing comments, especially as I'm usually out in the evening.

Some lovely people have asked to send me the odd gift, to avoid us both extra fees (shipping for you and forwarding address fees for me) I have, like many finally set up an Amazon wish list. If there is something you would like to send that isn't on my list, then email me on the address on my about page and I'll add the product in if it's available on amazon UK. Any gifts to my forwarding address are of course still welcome and very much appreciated too!! You can email me on the address on my about page. Lots of resin moulds on my wish list too ;)

Sometimes Amazon plays up and my address doesn't come up in other territories or with non amazon products. If this happens but you still want to get me something off of my list you can send me a friends and family PayPal and tell me what to purchase. You may have to work out the cost in other currencies. I'll do a video shout out when they arrive 🙂

Rule of thumb I follow is I don't strip any woven copper wire unless it is large size, All the rest of the appliance cords get the plug ends cut off and the clean corded material called " #2 coated insulated wire" goes into a clear plastic bag and is sold to the scrap yard for currently $1.10 a lbs. The solid copper wire up to 18 gauge (usually found in florescent lights) gets stripped and put in a clear plastic bag (so the yard can inspect the product) #16 & #18 wire is sold as #2 clean copper and brings $4.00 a lbs. currently. #14 and lower numbers are rated as #1 clean wire and currently are bought for $4.25 a lbs. Good video. :)

I've still got my pink Henry. I carnt scrap it, oh no 😢. The pile of twin an earth on your left is the stuff I fly through with out any problem, the vir stuff is a pain to strip and when you take the sheaf of and you see the 3 singles I just end up running 🏃‍♂️ it through my hand crank wire stripper, I need to invest in a electric one like yours. Would save me days of my time. Ps you have a wonderful asormemt of goodies in your shed, thank you for posting this very interesting video my friend 😀 😊 🤪👌👍🙏

As you've seen in my vids, I have the same stripper. My inclination is to only strip to get bare...Bare Bright (dirty minded girl). I usually let it accumulate then spend a couple hours just running it through in batches of similar sized wire. The adjustment tweaking can be a little time consuming so I try to limit how many times I have to do it. Love that copper.

Cheers for the numbers, very handy.
For the twin-&-earth, if you don't have a stripping machine, just put 2" of the earth wire in a vice, hold the outer casing and just walk away. The earth wire cuts the outer casing open as easy as pie, but you can end up half-way down the road 🙂. I strip the singles using a hard leather thigh-pad (a saddler made it for me for £10) and a 12" carving knife ( £3 from the car-boot) which I sharpened to a concave curve. You just haul the wire through. I cribbed the method from Project Shop, but maybe I'll invest in a stripper one day!

That was an excellent exercise, and some surprising results. You are definitely the best singing and sounding scrapper. I can't justify buying a wire stripper, but to be honest I would rather micro-scrap than strip wire, so I just sell as is when I do. 👍

I was going to strip one of those long yellow extension cords, but the insulation fused together because it stayed out in the 🌞 sun.

I hand strip almost all my wire. Anything 1/16 and smaller won't mess with unless the insulation easy to remove. Everything else is easy if you got a 2by4 and screw with a blade for the smaller stuff

I added a Deadman switch on my stripper. It got away from me once and was a little scary. This one seems good for the rubberized cable though. I might have to get one. Thanks for sharing.

I have enjoyed watching this, "very informative" on the wire. I have wondered a long time why you get more covered it is very clear they must know there loosing out but are they. 1) First you get loads less that its true value, 2) is the outer shell any type of commodity thus been another sellable item or in fact a tax write off by ton that can be claimed back as a yard never looses, " it's like going on slot machines there is big winner but not often so the player will still play it knowing, why because it's humanity's way of trying to get one over on the Boss and the Boss letting you have a party at Christmas the time when most yards give you a little treat for all that slog all year. am now watching the rest of you show oh P.S. do not forget to add the machine cost per stop start of the motor and its price when buying on any tax deductible's or profits . See I do come in and and view stuff you put up but with my breathing only about 94-95 now and heart dropping 60-50 am not as active in home its not that I do not love you all still cos i not been abled to type in chats for ages i cannot mentally type and watch it tires my out lol am a lazy sod smiles take care lass
