In today's video, I'll be discussing the talk I've been hearing about eyeshadow being dead or dying. Are people really not wearing eyeshadow anymore? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic!

💖 ABOUT ME:

Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time YouTuber with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. I hope you enjoy my channel and if you do, please don't forget to SUBSCRIBE & leave me a comment!

I don't think that eyeshadow is dead. I think that over consumerism is declining. Brands and customers were swept up in a cycle of constantly releasing/buying new palettes for a few years and now everyone's kinda coming out of the haze going, "We don't really need all that."

I’m old enough to remember they said “blush was for old ladies”. So moral of the story do what make you comfortable.

And also this"old lady"thing I've been hearing in the community that is phrased as if being an old lady is a bad thing🙄when is this agism going to stop? Why are we making women feel like they have to do anything and everything to remain looking 20 forever? And shaming them for simply being humans and Age? We all know what the alternative to aging is! Let people embrace their Age and their journy in life

I'm 69 years old and I wear a full face of makeup whenever I go out. I love the process and it makes me feel pretty. 😊

I think it's just a natural result of the over saturation and consumerism paired with the economic struggles people are having. Like i have more eyeshadow than I'll ever use, i really don't need to buy more

For me, eyeshadow will never die. And besides, eyeshadow will be back in fashion in a year or two, and all those people who threw their stuff out, will now have to re-buy it.

Putting on eyeshadow is my favorite part of my makeup routine and lbr most women don’t use eyeshadow bc they don’t know how to apply it. I’ll never stop wearing my eyeshadows!

You’ll have to pry my palettes out of my cold dead hands.

I think the price of eyeshadow palettes also may have something to do with the dropping off of sales. The prices of makeup in general has gotten crazy! Even the drug store brands aren’t “ cheap” anymore! 😳

I was always extremely conservative when buying palettes, because if you have a brown palette, how many browns do you need and can you really tell the difference. But when I started watching YT the last couple of years, I started to buy just for the heck of it, I will never be able to even make a dent in them and there are so many repeating colours, I certainly don't need anymore. With makeup in general, no one can ever tell what a person is wearing, so the whole thing we get caught up in is quite bazaar when you think about it.

Eyeshadow isn’t dying, how people are wearing eyeshadow is changing. The “barely there” or “natural” look is more popular than what was popular before the pandemic - ironically, when we couldn’t socialize and had to wear masks, so many people were wearing bright, colorful eyeshadow because they had to cover half their face but now a lot of makeup enthusiasts newer to the beauty world associate makeup with luxury because everything is getting more expensive and so many brands are owned by celebs and influencers that it’s become more about status than creativity. Also, for all us makeup enthusiasts who have been collecting for a hot minute, how much eyeshadow do we need? I don’t need to buy a palette from a fav brand every time it launches something, I’d rather invest in skincare and complexion than on eyeshadows because I have all the formulas and colors I like already.

It’s because people are into natural looking makeup. That’s why I think.

I LOVE eyeshadow….but my wallet needs me to not buy every one that comes out. I think it’s more about the over consumerism aspect of it. I tend to be more critical and ask is it really different from what I already have.

I have hooded older eyes. I am ALWAYS going to wear shadow to create a fake crease.

Jen, your hair is so beautiful!
I am almost 80 and been retired from nursing for 24 years. I have always done simple looks: cleanse, moisturize, mascara, blush, lipstick.
When 2020 happened, out of boredom started watching you-tube. I had never even heard of retinol! My eyeshadow consisted of a single blue shadow. (Never heard that if you had blue eyes you shouldn't wear blue shadow!)
One day my 33 yo granddaughter took me to Ulta. Never heard of it! 😅 Looked around in amazement at all the pretties. I am also a quilter, so color and color theory have always been in my life. I spotted a 35 pan Morphe pallet with beautiful colors and it was MINE!❤ I didn’t even know what to do with it! I tried, watched more videos and looked like a clown, but still bought more large palletes bc the colors were so pretty! 4 years later and i still don't use all those pretty pallets. I have a neutral shadow stick i use if going out, but i usually stay home and wear my skincare. SMH
Always enjoy your videos for your beauty, honest reviews, and education!
Thank you, so much! ❤❤

I wear eyeshadow every time I wear makeup. Gen Z also wears tube socks with crocs, I’m not taking fashion cues from them.

I absolutely love eyeshadow. It is my favorite part of my makeup. Everyday I go, so what are we using today…” it’s such fun! I don’t buy many new ones anymore because I love what I have but I still do my eyeshadow everyday.

If younger influencers want no eyeshadow fine, I love your less technical but flattering and casual approach to eyeshadow and what most WOMEN enjoy.

I had just got into makeup in 2018, and especially eyeshadow in 2019. Ironically, the mask-wearing-years really pushed me into bright, colorful indie eyeshadow, since that was all you could see! Now it’s been over a year since I’ve bought anything. For me, it’s mainly being overwhelmed by life in general and I’m happy shopping my stash.
