What happens when Mexico City's Pride Parade meets thousands of soccer fans?
Saw something cool today in Mexico City.
There were big screens set up to play the soccer game in the Centro Historico, and so that’s where thousands and thousands of Mexicans went to watch.
The match ended with Mexico winning 2-1, and so the crowd was cheering and ready to party. The crowd started to move for El Angel de La Independencia, the most famous place to celebrate such a victory.
But there was another event planned today in Mexico City — the gay pride parade. And so as the huge crowd of soccer fans headed toward El Angel, that is exactly where the pride parade was coming from.
When the two parades first met, at first the groups stayed on opposite sides of the street. They were both celebrating and singing for their own reasons. But as we continued to walk toward El Angel, and the crowd got bigger, and the noise got louder, I started to realise were no longer two parties. It was more like one big party, with the pride flags and Mexican flags flying together.
Another great day... the energy in this city is incredible!
