Today sees the release of a totally free course over at the Talkingbass website. It’s basically a teaser selection of lessons from the premium, paid content.
As a sneak peak at some of the content in the that free variety course, let’s take a look at a video lesson from the Simple Steps To Sight Reading course. This is from volume 3 and deals with the basics of 16th notes rhythms. We’ll be looking at what they are, how to count them and then work through a bunch of counting and melodic exercises.

Mark Is a natural teacher; he's clear, concise, confident and communicates in a way that actually encourages the student to 'go for it'...mistakes and all

I never said this but thank you Mark! When I decided to take my bass playing more serious I found you on YouTube about 7 years ago. At that time I had lost my job and I was jobless for 10 months. I watched all your videos for hours daily. If I didn’t understand something I would go do research and come back and watch the same video til I understood the concept. I did this for 10 months. My playing took off and I became a more solid, confident bass player. I still got a long way to go but your videos solidified me. Thank you very much! I often go on your channel and it takes me back to those days were I was jobless but your content help me in someway. 😊

Uploading these from the premium courses is a great idea, definitely let's see you see the quality of the content. I'll be definitely be sign up for the "simple steps to sight reading" when I have the money. This was incredibly useful.

As you went through each example, I heard songs in my head which made it really easy to follow along, thanks Mark!

With so many online teachers, I had found it difficult choosing one, but that settled it for me.

Mark, this is excellent. I have been looking for something like this. I will plug these into Guitar Pro so I can loop and practice these.

Great! Thanks. Tapping my foot, counting the rhythm and playing drives me mad... 🙂

Mark makes a comment about the disconnect where the foot taps on the rest - I find that performing the mute action on the rest reconnects my hands to the timing, and keeps me in sync. However, I'm a beginning bass player, and perhaps this is a bad habit - comments?

Sorry, but I am not keen on 1/16, 1/4 notes etc, I prefer quavers, minims & crotchet etc. this is where music came from, but keep these videos coming, very useful for me
