Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. Wilson Combat did with the 300 Hamr. It's a 300BO that is 1/8th inch (seriously) longer. To be fair it is primarily for supers and has a more accommodating twist rate.

Something for Illinois’ rifle deer laws would be nice. 1 2/5 case length and 30 cal minimum and single shot. Your thoughts on a good cartridge would be nice.

I've had sooo many 30 cals. My favorite to shoot is the .303 British but my favorite to shoot all around .30-06. I have a 7.5x55 swiss and a 30-30

Federal Ammo makes a round nose copper jacket 180 gr. lead core softie and I'm sure there is 180 gr. in non-lead projectiles in .303 cal. (bullet diameter is .311-.312 )...put that bullet on top of a Ruger .375 brass case and throw it into a 24 in. 1/10 twist barrel and you will have your new conversation piece...and it will out perform anything as far as game is concerned shy of the .375 H&H without the extra recoil...out to at least 200 yrds...you would have to use an existing action and have "Hart" make a barrel for you and marry it to the action...I think it's workable...As of the moment I think Hornady and Sierra has this particular projectile in stock for hand loading but not 100 percent sure.

My dad had a .30/40 rifle I shot as a teenager. That damn rifle was wildly loud .

I've been dreaming of buying a .308 sig cross since I 1st saw one and got to handle it. But after getting hit by a cat 5 hurricane and had to max out the credit cards. Spending 1, 500 dollars plus some putting some good glass on it. I very well might get a Ruger American Predator the light weight model that has the short barrel with threaded muzzle. The Ruger doesn't look as scary also
