Hisense H8G Quantum TV Review Pt. 2 | Much Better

preview_player

Our first Hisense H8G with Quantum Dots sample didn't look right, so we requested a replacement believing the first unit we got was defective. That was definitely the right move. The H8G has no business looking this good for its price. Or so you would think. What, if any, limitations does this 4K HDR TV have? We explore all that and more in Part 2 of our H8G Quantum review.

Love Hisense TV. I have a Sony for my main TV for Android 3D back in the day but my secondary TVs is a 50" 4K Hisense I got a few years ago for $200. It's also built well as I can just attest to because it just fell 4 feet onto a solid floor which broke one of the legs and the bezel on both sides but yet the LCD is unscathed. Amazing.

I too got great screen uniformity on my H8G!

I purchased this TV two weeks ago. AWESOME in my book!! I personally prefer the Standard picture mode because I like saturated colors. Vivid mode is overkill.

It is my first Hisense TV, coming from TCL, since Series 1. What made me choose the H8G over the TCL Series 6 was the 700 nits of brightness. This is the better choice in my opinion.

I picked it up for $500 from Best Buy and, I’d buy it again at that price. I recommend it for those who want a decent TV at a great price!

Great review, Caleb!

Had My H9G 2 weeks now still Dialing in the Picture.4k, Dolby Vision, HDR all look amazing, Standard not so much. TV does have some noticeable blooming. OFF angle viewing is Horrible but not an ISP Panel, How Bout H8G vs H9G

The feather image on the Samsung 5:45 has so much details and clearer compared to the H8g. Although an unfair comparision due to price difference, but you do get what you paid for.

A good versus will be TCL 6 series (2020 or 2019) and Viizio M series.

The first sample probably wasn't indicative of Hisense's PQ but I wouldn't be all that confident the second sample is indicative either. I would say rtings' measurements are more likely what you would get from a purchased model.

And if you're a stickler for color accuracy then the value quotient goes out the window if you need to get it calibrated.

As always Caleb, thank you for the thoroughly professional review. If Hisense sent a professional reviewer a malfunctioning TV, I wonder what chance the average consumer has of getting a "good" TV. Did you hear fro Hisense about this issue?

Maybe Hisense sent you a hand picked TV unlike some of the other reviews out there.

To have a much better picture quality (for me anyway), on my 50inch Hisense Q8G (Canadian model number of the H8G), i had to do:
-Theater Day
-High temperature
-Gamma 2.4
-Lower brightness to 40, contrast to 45, sharpness to 5
-Disable overscan
-Disable dynamic contrast, auto backlight dimming, and local dimming (i hate anything automatic, and personally i think it screw up more than help)
-Disable motion correction (i hate those motion correction things)
-In HDMI, enable advanced mode for RGB, 4:4:4 and full colors
-Using native color space instead of auto
-Keeping (both?) noise filter(s) to medium (what's up with having two of them anyway?)
-Also, you may want to disable "Enhanced viewing angle" when you play videogames or use a PC, especially in 4K, cos this function may make tiny black lines look weird/jagged (this option use subpixel dithering to improve viewing angle, when resolution is very high like 4K, it may make some graphics look a bit weird like i wrote earlier)

Great review! Now you should wait and buy a unit that's from a store and see how it stacks up to both of your review units.

H8G vs H9G please! Great review, but I'm leaning towards to the Q9G in Canada (H9G in US) so I would love to see a direct comparison to see if it's worth the extra few hundred!

I got the HG8 last week and an loving. I watched Mad max fury road on Blu-ray and streamed a few movies in HDR from Disney+ and Amazon Prime. My wife was very impressed so I consider that a good sign.

If you like the H8G, you’ll definitely love the H9G. It is absolutely incredible!

Between the 50 inch hisense h8g and the 2020 new TCL 50 inch 50S535
what is better? It seems rtings says hisense has better brightness but TCL has much better contrast ratio, whats a better tv?

Rtings: HDR Peak 10% Window: *659* *nits*

Digital Trends: HDR Peak 10% Window: *928* *nits*

What's up with that? 🤔

Looks like a great value, but vizo is going to bring it this year with the new HDMI standard across their entire lineup. I think that's going to be the standard to beat. Looking forward to those reviews.
