UFC started out as BJJ > all, then transitioned to Wrestling > all once wrestlers began learning submission defense, and is now currently Striker's /w good takedown defense > all. The meta is constantly changing and evolving. Striker /w good takedown defense is a top meta since the fight always begins starting on the feet.

The old school idea was that everyone needs to train bjj in the gi even mma fighters. That has slowly changed as people realized it’s just not sport specific and time could be better spent. I personally feel like we should take it a step further and spend less time (still some) doing no gi bjj and instead do more time in what I would call mma grappling. Gloves on simulating light strikes for most of your grappling training with some pure no gi bjj for supplement.

I would say initially yes. I’m personally surprised that we don’t see more leg-lock finishes in MMA.

B-Team has the right style for mma. Plus styles rise and fall, wrestling is on top now.

Thats why you do grappling with light strikes to the head to simulate a real threat.... for mma

That’s a great video concept, escape in mma versus escape in sports no gi, some pure grappling nerds will realize Serious adjustments have to be made
To their fight game once other Elements come into play.

Jiu jitsu is actually alot of fun. Thought it was gonna be lame but it’s not.

We've all rolled with an MMA guy who has been able to pin us very well. We need better pins in jiu jitsu

I know i sent this many times but i don’t know if you read it before so im sorry.

Can you make 2 vids on juji Club on how to be a kickboxing & bjj coach? I've trained in both but I need guidance on how to coach my brother at home to be competitive with the gym kids. The vid should cover how you coaches know every techniques, using mitts, preparing us as future gym trainers etc.

MMA fighters need to learn more Japanese Ju Jitsu. We don't see enough wrist locks, arm bars, and ankle locks in MMA because they either don't know it or don't practice it enough. Currently, Striking is winning, correctly, because they've learned how to avoid BJJ and Wrestling related takedowns.

I've never seen an MMA fight with "Combined Striking" strategy from an arm bar or wrist lock, even though I personally know from 6 years of full contact training that's how a black belt vs black belt fight SHOULD end.

Imagine if we were still allowed to grab the fence. Strikers would dominate so hard today

It depends if we are discussing MMA with or without gloves. Submission grappling is more effective in mma without gloves. Why: Without hand protection it can be difficult to punch hard enough for KO’s without breaking your hands especially in ground and pound. That makes guarded positions safer because top athlete cannot punch full power. And Executing submissions is much easier without the gloves in the way.

Watch bare knuckle mma. Lot of submissions.

Hey coach heres a question: Should those who train BJJ (either competitive or hobby) do yoga on the side? It would seem beneficial

Guys did ever mention if someone has a difference in leg lengths? I am 190cm with a 1.6cm difference in leg length. It’s basically a lot of instability and limits my performance

Ask O’Malley if he should have trained more grappling. Then ask Merab.

I’ve got a question to ask. Why is that people with less experience tend to meet my level in wrestling and bjj I’ve got about a year in overall mma experience but people with a few months of training tend to still be a challenge for me. Do you have any tips on how I could fix this ?

not really, it seems to me like defense (all martial arts) is most important

Bjj is becoming more useless in MMA as time goes by, Islam destroyed Olivera with wrestling and now Periera double champ using 0 grappling

No way! BJJ is boring to watch unless you fighting like Khabib ground, and pound style. No one doesn’t want to see dudes rolling on the ground.
