My own views about religion changed as a young man after reading Thomas Paine's book "Age of Reason." One may decide to believe on faith in the directives found in the scriptures of whatever religious sect is followed. However, history clearly tells us that humans created the gods in order to attach explanation to what they did not understand.

It is wrongheaded to focus on the text of the Bible aa a way of explaining and understanding Christianity, since what has determined the reality of Christianity in every age is not the text itself, but its interpretations. The interpretations vary according to time and place. The same is true of the Qur’an and Islam.

Sorry Ms. Harriet Fraad but with all due respect "The Word" never mentions what kind of fruit. It calls it "the fruit of the tree." No one knows what kind of fruit it was. But we all know the kind of fruit it was has no relevancy. And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die." Genesis 3: 2, 3. BTW, God was referring to the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Christianity is roughly divided into 1400 different sects, smaller or greater. You can definitely find a division that suits you, if you do not want to go with Karl, and deem it the opiate.
