As someone who worked in VFX and SFX I find that movies (and TV) have changed dramatically. Shows are now produced to either sell something, or push the SDF message or draw in as many Chinese viewers as possible. Where it used to be that movies were made about a subject that the producers and directors were passionate about. When I worked for a TV show it felt that there was no real passion. When I work for a student or an indie film, I feel and see passion. I see stuff that is unique, not necessarily my taste or my style but at least something you go like: "oh this is unique!" or "wow this is clever!" and in all of them you feel passion and drive. In commercial products it's just the product and the people involved are "just" there to make their living, they do their job but aren't involved with their heart.
I spoke to a gaffer once who was on the set of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as a electrician. He said he felt jazzed working there, he knew they were making something special and everybody was driven to do their best. This is now, according to him, completely gone. And I don't know if he's jaded like me in IT or not. But I don't see pictures anymore that I feel there's a lot of passion in them.

Stephen King has said that he puts characters in situations first and then explores what happens, and that even he doesn't know how his stories will end as he's writing

I'd appreciate it if you put a source link to the original video in the description

Its a violation of the characters. You have to believe in the characters for characters and stories to be believable. The characters “will tell you where they will go”, if you have made them well because they have needs, preferences and react to their environmentnin ways that are in their character to do so. This is what we call character driven movies and is in my opinion why “plot driven” movies usually don’t work because they often creates a dissonance where you have watched a character become established and the character goes and does a thing they never would do. Human have an unconscious awareness of humans. That does not mean the same as that the character can’t do weird stuff or that you can’t be creative with the character but theres a fine line where the character expresses ithin their range of being and where yiu “force the hand” and the character goes from being a real story that connects with the audience to become a robotic puppet on strings. Which is fine if the character is set up to not be an alive character from the beginning but if the fharacter is set up as a human that ressonates with “humanity” you as a film maker have made a promise to thenaudience and when you twist the character out of the blue you violate the audience expectation and not in a good way. Stories are more than mere fiction, its how humans make sense of the world, good stories mythologieses life in a way that boils down life to the essense where we learn more anout ourself and our environment and thats atleast one big part of the reason why stories have captivated humans through our ancestry on a more deeper level. This is not a concious process, of course stories are simple fun, but great stories that connects when you listen to them moves something more on a deeper level and becomes “memes” ingrained in the culture and legends for a reason. Great stories on a meta level helps humanity to survive, thrive and develop

People who complain about this think hollywood is everything and there's no other options. My advice is to cancel your Netflix subscription and sign up for a Mubi account. You'll find cinema isn't just the american anglocentric view of the world.

This is a fake problem that only exists if you don’t actually watch movies. There are dozens and dozens of good movies that are challenging and experimental that come out every year, and they’re not just good because they’re different.

I’m not going to judge the current state of American cuisine by talking about McDonald’s

Not to mention the US government propaganda that gets into these movies...
