Despite Adam and his arc being a dispensable element in the plot (we clearly lose nothing without him), Gunn managed to make him one of the most memorable character.

Edit: some people say that without Adam Star Lord would be dead. Like really, if Adam Warlock didn't appear in this movie, Kevin Feige would be like "Oh damn, we got no one to save Quill, welp it's sucks, I gotta kill him".
