CURIOUS about what Waikiki looks like RIGHT NOW? Join me as I walk through the INTERNATIONAL MARKETPLACE. Over the next few weeks, I'm going to include walk-with-me tours around Waikiki to show you what Waikiki looks like RIGHT NOW. I'll focus on areas which normally would be really busy/crowded this time last year to see a comparison.
📍Location: Honolulu, Hawaii | OAHU

I truly miss the original Marketplace. It was so much of what made me fall in love with Hawaii and Waikiki on my first visit in 1980 and I have been back some 25-30 times since. I miss the vendors and the great conversations over the years. The "formal" Sak's employees are so un-Hawaiian.

Not to take away from your video, it does show the Marketplace as it is today. I'm just sad for what I miss and wish you had been there to capture the glory and greatness of what it was.

I loved the old marketplace. This new market is like any other mall in any other city. I also found the new market employees rather cold and unfriendly where the old market was full of friendly people.

My first and best bar ever was in the Banyon tree .. that was 1972.... warm evening, light rain and a Black now, not so looks like the Lakewood BAH !

Sure LOOKS different! I hung out there in 1968, usually at the bar in the back, the "POWER ( no?) Bar. Lots of fun, action and good pool. Those were the days 👏👏👌💞

I agree with a lot of the other comments, the old International Market Place was so much better than this updated modern mall. I have been going to Hawaii since 1979 and would always walk through the market place and enjoyed the stalls and talking to the vendors, they were friendly. And now it is cold and unfriendly. The atmosphere of Waikiki has been taken away.😪

If it wasn't for the old banyan tree I wouldn't have recognised the place. So clinical...oh, well, at least I have my memories and a few photos.

The old International market is better than this new one! This now is just another mall, the Hawaiian spirit and culture is no longer there!

Still would like your favorite restaurant video or several places to eat and best dish.

It’s a beautiful mall - but a tragedy that the old marketplace had to go to accomodate it.

Nice video :-)

I loved the old market. Is there anything like that somewhere else?

where does one find the little kiosks and local vendors now that they arent in the market? like the places where you could purchase and harvest a pearl and have it set in jewelry?

Cómo hacéis para tener césped y plantas en todos lados?.

Why ? Why? It is just exactly like every other tourist mall in Waikiki . Sad . What was unique with all the small vendors is now a copy and paste
Of every mall on Kalakaua . The only way you would know it was in Hawaii was by looking at the street signs outside.

In your videos you need to think, "how can I showcase my beauty to my viewers?"

It’s pretty, but it’s really sad they pushed out local vendors for another mall where you can buy the same things you can buy anywhere.
Wikiki is everything wrong with what rich white men did to Hawaii. When visiting Hawaii, don’t go here. Instead enjoy the natural beauty of these island and buy local.
