In regards to the Roadmap, I think that CIG bears a big portion of the responsibility for the way they've been received. It's one thing to say that things are not promised, not set in stone, subject to change. But the purpose of putting out a roadmap at all is to inform the backers about your goals and give APPROXIMATE time-frames for when progress on specific elements should be expected.

The act of creating a "roadmap" means looking at where you are, what you're doing, and providing a ballpark time-frame for things. If CIG could get it in the ballpark, I don't think there'd be so much outcry. But frankly, most of their ETAs are not even landing on the same continent, let alone in the ballpark. It's this gross misrepresentation (intentional or not) that tends to give the impression that CIG either seems to have no clue whatsoever about these things, or they're BS'ing us to keep the hype (and thus money) rolling.

People need to always be on guard for aggro players especially if comms are off. Players doing pointless murder will go down when pvp bounties are improved

I think that in the future, when servers are joined, bounty hunters will help allieviate the piracy problem.

(1) I wasn't sold that this was a team MMO - from the beginning the game was pitched to include gameplay for solo players, that is what I backed. (2) There were supposed to be safe sectors of space which are relatively well protected from PvP, and other systems which are very dangerous.

There won't be anything gameplay-centric in Squadron 42 that isn't in Star Citizen. You're in the role of a military character and the vast majority of the gameplay is going to be combat and things relating to and supporting that. It's weird to me to think that development of it will set Star Citizen back.

If you look at everything that's released in the Gameplay section the recent patches, nearly all of it can be associated with what you'd expect to do in Squadron 42. Healing, bombing, managing inventories and equipping armor/weapons, infiltration and defense missions, missile operator mode, surrender mechanics, radar and scanning, power management, spawn closets, mounted guns, force reactions, ship docking, object push, and so on.

Most of the other stuff is carryover from previous implementations and fixing things like UI and vehicle functionality. There's a lot potential overlap even within that.

That being said, I still think it's important at this point that CIG keep us up to date as to how close these gameplay elements along with the rest of the processes are getting us to a Squadron 42 release. If it is the focus - and clearly it is and has been for some time - we should have an idea of where we stand with it specifically.

The endeavour will be the last ship to be added before release.

I want them to clear up the backlog before they sell more concepts.

Thanks for the video! As long as we don't have proper law and bounty mechanics, it's hard to discuss what's "meaningless PvP" as you could argue that all the PvP at the moment serves no goal.
If the law is strict enough, systems like Pyro will make a lot of sense, if it's not, I believe that random killing like we see at the moment will become a sort of norm, yes.

The focus on SQ42 says to me that they have hit a wall in PU development.

The HoverToken being released when the X1 was sold years ago, but still not out, is a serious problem.

I am not sure SQ42 is going to be a cash cow for them. I would imagine that most people that are interested, already have a package, and SQ42 does not drive ship sales. For the time invested CIG makes a lot more bringing a new ship to market.

Ship sales for the PU, funding SQ42 is a problem. Essentially SQ42 has become a resource leech on what the vast majority of the funding has been put in to develop.

Thanks for the levelheaded updates. Keeping it real but not over the top.

The whole "they said it could be delayed" response is a massive pet peeve of mine. I'll equate it to an example from sportsball that some might understand, hopefully. In the NFL is just kinda accepted that concussions and brain damage are going to happen (you know, just like delays in software dev), but they still work to prevent it. CIG does nothing to prevent it. If every-single-freaking-thing is delayed (well hey, we warned you that it could be delayed) then for fucks sake, extend your estimates! It's been 10 years! Learn a lesson! Pad your estimates a LOT more!

My other pet peeve is people whinging about minor bugs. Bruh. It doesn't matter if some rocks are minable or some box isnt registered. Until the servers are fixed, none of that fkn matter. It'll all get ruined eventually by a proper bug. Which ever dev is allocated to fixing those minor bugs would be better allocated to almost anything else. Including simply emptying the garbage cans or restocking the fridge.

The other posts were too inane for me to even remember in order to give a comment. lol

For the one hundredth time. ...Just because CIG is shifting more focus to SQ42 doesn't mean the PU will get neglected. Both use the same assets. If anything, the PU would get content a little later than usual but it will be more polished since its getting brought over from SQ42.

The big problem that CIG has when they move something off of a roadmap or delay it, they never say why. If they said that Salvage was delayed because they are having problems with the ship models we could understand that. When it disappears with no explanation we wonder if there was any work done to begin with. Especially if it is happening constantly. If CIG told us why then we can focus on that item an hopefully see progress, even if it is mostly back end. Right now all we get are broken promises with no explanation why it’s broken. If you told us Pyro is delayed because we are still having issues keeping continuity between a Stanton shard and Pyro, then we know that we shouldn’t expect Pyro till after we get server meshing. Then that delay makes sense and we don’t get all butt hurt because you said we would get it last year. Hell even just stating that the team that was supposed to work on NPC reactions were stuck fixing bug that got players stuck in a ship and couldn’t get to the NPC feature and that’s why it’s delayed is understandable. Telling us why we don’t see progress, is giving us progress. Telling us we are too salty is just throwing more brine in the mix.

Crows is right, I work on software every damn day, I test software every damn day, building robots, you have deadlines, you cut some things, but this isn't much different. They have massive flaws and mismanagement going on under the hood. It looks extremely bad especailly for touting professional software devs with experience on their team.

FYI, hydrogen peroxide works better to neutralize skunk smell, and it's probably cheaper too. Bill Nye taught me that. And I used it once when my dog got sprayed. worked wonders. highly recommend.

That said, the X1 should have been released and not the hoverquad. I'd have bought a few x1's as an LTI token and one to keep for myself.

My biggest worry around the whole "Deadlines" discussion is the more ethereal stuff like Quantum and Server Meshing that we just haven't SEEN much, if any, work on. Seems like a lot of the game hinges on a couple conceptual tech pillars that are routinely pushed and pushed and pushed. I whole heartedly hope that CIG will get them done eventually, but I get concerned

Well...

- I think you can take a look at Elite to see how the griefing/ganking situation is likely to play out. Except in Elite 1) there's private group mode, which SC will never have, and 2) most areas aren't comm-link dead zones (i.e. anarchy systems) so it's a lot harder to get away with it consequence-free. At least in Elite you WILL get a bounty on your head and there are anti-ganker builds that will ensure you'll be paying for a rebuy at some point. SC doesn't have either of these things even PLANNED. There are comm-link dead zones now but these are intended to remain, and there are entire systems with no official law, which means no comm-links and no crimestats. Also, look at what happens in Deciat in Elite. Stanton is going to be Deciat but ten times worse. Pyro will be twenty times worse. My hope is that CIG will see this in beta (since clearly CIG is allergic to looking at other games and learning from them...) and implement a solution before full launch. The current plan is NOT viable, though. If the game becomes a total gankfest people will leave in droves and the game will absolutely wither and die. After all, it doesn't matter how much CIG puts in the game for players to experience if they can't leave a hangar in one piece.

- XT was buttery smooth for me the three times I played it this time, and I've not had a single 30k since 3.15.1 (and I only had one then.) As far as stability is concerned, the game is definitely improving, especially in the last 2 patches. Lag spikes are few and far between, gimbals and fixed lead indicators are both working at the same time, and pad services seem to function every single time I land, even when landing at MIC-L1 in the middle of XT. If features had made as much progress as stability has in the past year I believe the press about this game would be absolutely glowing.

- I don't care about SQ42, never have, and never will. I'll play it, sure, but I really don't care about it at all. That said, I want it to get done so that the people who do care about it get what they came for. I would simply ask that CIG promise the community that once SQ42 launches its first episode/installment/etc that they promise us that the vast majority of development resources will shift back to the PU until it launches. I do not believe for a single microsecond that SQ42 is going to drive sales for the PU. In fact I am completely confident that it will do exactly the opposite - no matter if CIG does a great job or not, more people who play SQ42 are going to decide not to jump into the PU than those that will, because it's a high-end game and if it has a single problem, be it a bug or performance issue or anything whatsoever, that's a missed sale for the PU. After 10+ years, the people who are still on the sidelines now are going to expect SQ42 to launch in an absolutely flawless state, which will never happen, so SQ42 will not drive PU sales, it'll cost them.

- I think it would be wise for them to clear out the parts of the backlog that they can, such as the X1, G12, Ranger, and Polaris. There's also a few ships such as the BMM and the Nautilus they could launch with some of their features. The BMM would still be a great cargo ship even without the bazaar, and the Nautilus is still supposed to have those size 7 guns on the front. As a placeholder they could give the Nautilus the bombing capability from the A2 until the proper mines are done. These 6 could all be done in a single quarter and it would make a lot of backers quite happy. I also don't understand why player Idris aren't in the game yet. We know they're basically done. Would it really be that hard to wrap up the interior in the next few months? If making the railgun functional for players is somehow an issue they could simply only ship the Idris-P. I'm sure Idris-K owners would rather have an Idris-P than their current loaners. So no, they don't have to finish the entire backlog, but there's several ships they could get to flyable with minimal effort that would really help with the optics and be fully or mostly functional.

- I guess the question is why bother to put up a roadmap if the majority of it is wrong? There's "some of this is subject to change" and then there's "70% of this just changed, and we didn't even move it to the next quarter/patch, we just removed it entirely." If at least half of what CIG puts on the roadmap disappears, then their disclaimer doesn't address the core problem. We are not unreasonable (mostly.) We are willing to accept delays so long as A) they are sensible and not the vast majority of the roadmap and B) CIG will explain WHY all of these things are delayed. The later especially is important, and has been totally absent from every Roadmap Roundup for years and years. "X needs more time" is not an explanation. For example, why did you think Salvage T0 was going to make it into 3.17, CIG? Tell us PRECISELY what went wrong. You don't have to post code compilation error logs or anything, but tell us with as much detail as possible exactly what happened. Those of us with a modicum of programming experience would find ANY level of detail very reassuring here. Instead we get vague "X just wasn't up to our standards so we're removing it from the roadmap entirely." That does not inspire hope! A delay of 1 or 2 patches looks MUCH better than an indefinite one, and especially an indefinite delay with zero detail as to the cause!

This October marks ten years since the campaign started. Though a lot of progress has been made its a fraction of what is needed. At this rate it feels like it will take 40 years when its all said and done.
The amount this game has made, I'd put money on some other AAA studio just doing this game first.

I like mining with the org. But sometimes it's just relaxing to jump into my prospector and spend some time by myself. And the money is great. Thanks for the video.

I'm pretty sure since they are still working on server meshing and building block, it was great idea to focus on finishing the single player
