Hey Steve. Have you read “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson? It’s about his attempt at doing the Appalachian Trail. He never writes about paranormal stuff, but he had an encounter on his hike. I don’t know how anyone has the courage to do that walk, especially the last 100 mile part through pure, unsettled primeval forest to Maine. Nah, not for me. Imagine the night in there?

The scariest thing about Connecticut are the taxes.

Interesting stories Steve (and Company). The opening the windows and covering the mirrors when someone has died in the home is common in Hispanic culture, also the removing the deceased family member feet first because if not the spirit can get a foothold at the door and never leave if the body is removed head first. I enjoy listening to the content on this channel and look forward to your uploads. ❤

There's a belief that came from Denmark that you open a window when somebody dies to let the soul leave. It's neat to see this belief also in Appalachia.

I live in Conway, AR. Our local High School has adopted the Wampus Cat as their mascot so it was fun to hear about the origins of this "animal". I'm not a native of AR so I will have to do a little research to find out how long ago they adopted it as their mascot. :)

My mamaw raised me and terrified all of us with the wompus cat if we didn't go to sleep in a timely manner. I'm so glad you touched on this one. No, we aren't Cherokee, but we do have Cherokee ancestors.

I appreciate those Appalachia folk superstition. No matter how far off that place is to me here in Southeast Asia there are superstitions that resemble ours.

Moon eyed makes me think of the Jackson Whites who were rumored to live in the woods along the AT along the NY/NJ border

I live in southwest VA. Right near the Appalachian trail. We was always told don't go to a certain party of these woods, evil lives there, we have seen some strange things, one a old black man holding a lantern, there was a train wreck in the mountains here and he was one of the ones that died. Love your stories.

As far as the New Year Day food superstition, my family always said that eating pork, cabbage with a new penny cooked with it was supposed to bring good luck and a prosperous year.

I have seen the same lights as the Brown Mtn lights, near Cleveland. GA . I lived in the area off 129 near the high school. I saw the lights in the woods every night.
