I'm sure McCain would have spoken just as beautifully at Obama's memorial service if the situation had been reversed. We need this type of civility back in American politics, we need a place where ideas are discussed and mud is not slung.

John McCain knew his eulogy would be spot on by the smartest person in DC. He knew it would be sincere.

That Barack Obama can find the words to make a grieving widow and son laugh just proves how precious and thoughtful he is.

I didn’t know John had asked President Obama to speak at his funeral, I thought is was his family that asked, what a great tribute to the President.

Never forget that McCain was the deciding vote in whether or not they would repeal Obamacare. And he voted not in favor of repealing, only one of three republicans to do so. When asked why he didn't vote yes with the other republican part members, McCain said "I don't work for the Republican Party. I work for the people of Arizona and the people of America, and taking away health coverage for 600, 00 people would not be helping them."

We need more John McCain's and Obama's in politics.

I come back to watch this eulogy periodically to remind myself that once upon a time, Democrats and Republicans could agree on one thing if no other: they loved our country and wanted to preserve our Democracy. In his extraordinarily graceful eulogy, Barack Obama demonstrates what it means to respect and admire a political opponent while at the same time disagreeing with him. I'm a lifelong Democrat, but I am very sorry there are no John McCains left among us. He was a tower of decency whose like, I fear, we will not see again.

Ladies and gentlemen! This is a real Republican! Who ran against President Obama and lost! Who differed in thought! Yet still respected him and ASKED him to speak of him! He trusted him! This is how a real man behaves. With dignity and self respect. Honorable and respectful even in defeat. Because he understood that an America united, is better than half of America and divided.

When McCain took the mike from that lady at the town hall in 2008 and corrected what she was saying about Obama I had more respect for him than any politician I've ever seen. And I'm a lifelong democrat.
