Garry Adelman is back with another Civil War photography tour. This time we check out the locations of the many 1864 photos taken at Kennesaw Mountain during/after the Atlanta Campaign.

The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

You must be good at geometry and billiards! Love the photo connections between past and present!

We hiked there a lot in the early 1960s and were in the reenactment in 1964. I know Pidgeon Hill well and I always wondered where that photo was taken. Brilliant analysis. Thank you.

Thank you for your awesome video, I have hiked up and around Kennesaw Mountain, Little Kennesaw and Cheatham Hill for years. I am amazed at just how big a battle there was at Kennesaw Mountain. I live very close to the Cheney house. I also have friends that live on Cheatham Hill Road. Their house is very close to where General Thomas and his troops camped.

Very helpful video, Gary. Your work and enthusiasm are inspiring. Thanks for going into such detail! Please keep these videos coming. You are a true historian. I taught it myself for 42 years in school and college, and once lived within four miles of Kennesaw. Went out Burnt Hickory on fishing trips many times, but you have illuminated a lot of the details of these photos. Thanks for your conscientious work!

I gotta tell ya, I wish my history teachers in high school were as interesting as Garry. I'm a huge history buff, and it's because of people like Chris, Garry and the folks at American Battlefield Trust!

Hey Garry! We need to pay you to do more of this! Love the Photos Then and Now segments!*

*Almost as much as I appreciate the "Step Into the Photo" segments...

Thanks Gerry, although often not agreeing with everything you say, including some extreme disagreements about one in the west and two in the east battles. There can be no doubt of your research, dedication, and just plain emotional excitement about being able to say THIS PLACE RIGHT HERE! Love the video.

Gary actually taught me a lot of what I know on how to identify where a photo was taken, and I've actually identified about 6 or 7 photos with just research. I love these types of videos. It's always awesome to be looking at an old map finding the spot and then lining it up.

Amazing research. Gary truely thank you so much for all your diligent research. You really bring it all to life. I hope you are aware of how much you are appreciated and valued as a civil war guru

To my knowledge, the location of the picture looking up towards Pigeon Hill is in a neighborhood off Old Mt. Road which connects to Burnt Hickory Road at the intersection below PH.

Great work Gary! I'm a born and raised local to Kennesaw Mountain and have always been of the understanding that the cabin in the background from that photo of the Federal works, belonged to George Washington Kirk or another member of the Kirk family. It was located off of now Davis Carnes Road northeast of the York House site.

Really enjoyed this Gary thank you. Well done. I always have Frassanito's books when I go to Gettysburg and Antietam.
