The anthem of the Krasnodar Krai is a work based on the verses of the regimental priest Father Konstantin Obraztsov, set to folk music and arranged by Professor Viktor Zakharchenko (Krasnodar Krai Law "On the Symbols of Krasnodar Krai" of May 5, 1995, No. 5-KZ, adopted on March 24, 1995, by the Legislative Assembly of Krasnodar Krai, Chapter 3, Article 16). As you probably already guessed, this song is still an official anthem of Kuban (Krasnodar Krai) today.

Historical background:

The folk song "You, Kuban, You Are Our Homeland" was written in 1914 on the Russo-Turkish front. It was dedicated to the Cossacks of the 1st Caucasian Cossack Regiment in memory of their military glory in World War I. The author of the lyrics is regimental priest Konstantin Obraztsov.

The song immediately caught the attention of the warriors. The military songs in their repertoire typically depicted scenes of campaigns and battles involving the Cossacks. However, this new song does not have any martial, external, or descriptive elements. Its content and emotions are conveyed in a simple, heartfelt, yet wise and majestic manner, appealing to the human spirit.
You can find both Russian and English lyrics below.

Lyrics:

You, Kuban, you are our homeland,
Our ancient hero!
With many waters and vast lands,
You have spread far and wide.

From distant southern lands,
From overseas shores,
We come to you, dear motherland,
Your faithful sons.

Thinking of you,
We sing a united song,
About your free villages,
About our native paternal home.

Thinking of you,
Like of our own mother,
We march into mortal combat
Against the enemy, the basurmanin.

Thinking of you,
Shall we not stand up for you?
Shall we not give our lives
For your ancient glory?

As a humble tribute,
From renowned banners,
We send to you, dear Kuban,
Our deepest bow to the wet soil.
