As an African, I must protest. What do the British ever do for us?

Em...well Apart from the roads, the railways, the telegraph, telephone, irrigation systems, canals, streets, sewer systems, power systems, electricity, courthouses, universities, new crops, new methods of farming, new medicines, literacy, law and order, concept of democracy, concept of individual freedom which has led to the increase in life expectancy and decrease in infant mortality rates. .really what have the British done for us?

As an American, I am so impressed by how that little island once ruled one quarter of the world's surface and population. And modernized it to boot. I know I'll get flamed by the SJW's for saying this, but you Brits have every reason to be proud of the British Empire.

Was born in HK during the final year of the British Empire. Being Asian I have to say if you look at history everyone tried to rule each in the past, even blacks and the natives killed each other, they ignore the facts about the UK's huge contribution to end slavery, to bring democracy and science to the world, yes there are bad parts in Britain's history but in comparison to a lot of other countries you can see that the UK contribution has far out weighed the negatives. I am from a state of India known as Manipur which is a landlocked and remote corner of the country. During WWII, one of the most important battles was fought in our state which is called the Battle of Imphal. Imphal is the capital city of Manipur and I am a born native of said city. I remember a story from one of the elderly of our locality. He told us when he was just a boy there were British soldiers stationed nearby and whenever he went near their camp, the British soldiers would always give him biscuits and little treats. Also when Japan attacked and bombed our city, our grandparents who were young teens at that time would hide in deep pits and at the foothills. These are some of the stories I heard growing up as a child. Something I truly find incredible is the inquisitiveness of the British. Our state was a sovereign kingdom and was formally not a part of India historically. It was annexed by the British in 1891 and when they left, Manipur joined the Union of India through the Merger of Agreement. As I said before, our state is in the North Eastern region of India which is very isolated and cut off from the rest of India. But the British were able to reach even the deepest corner of the empire and eventually annex our state. And that is something I have alway found incredible. We can still see the then building of the British Residency of our state in a historic fort known as Kangla fort. I bear no grudge or any ill will towards modern day Brits. I respect them as I would respect any person of any nationality. If not for them, I might not even be speaking english or typing this long essay here. 😅 Guess I'll stop here for now. Love to the UK and the Brits. 🇮🇳❤🇬🇧

I’m a British Indian whose family came into existence because of the Empire and I’m immensely proud of it. Truly amazing. Some say that because I’m brown I can’t say ‘our Empire’ or ‘we did this’. But I was born and raised in England, English is my first language and I’ve benefitted from an English education. My family left independent India to have a better life. I’m definitely English. I’m also Indian, but first and foremost English.
