If you want to heal with Light Dragon parts, use them on your spear instead.
Spears attack much faster.

It always bugged me that lynel shields were the only ones that did damage in BotW. Some of those spiky lizal shields looked like they should be able to damage as well. Now TotK gives us ANY shield as a potential second weapon, including elemental effects and such. Glorious.

The biggest help I found early is fusing a ruby, then later a sapphire to a shield to allow me in the basic cold and hot areas. Got the basic snow pants for level 2 protection from the cold. I still have my 2 def ruby shield. Another benefit to the ruby shield is that it melts ice.

A tip:
When boosting yourself into the air using bombs/springs to bullet time, you will fall faster with your shield on your feet. You can avoid this by pressing b mid air before you go into bullet time to remove the shield and have bullet time last longer.

Some other fun ones:

Honey (ie beehive) on a shield gives enemies a faceful of bees when you block.

Zonai Mirrors will let you stun and disarm enemies from a decent range (only works when standing in sunlight, though)

And I'm pretty sure that rocks or hammer like monster parts even let you mine via shield bashes, in case you don't feel like swapping back and forth between a disposable mining weapon and a fighting weapon.

You can also fuse frozen meat to your Shield. It does not melt in a goes a lot faster

Another way to gain height is fusing a octo balloon on your shield its a 1 time use but does no damage to the shield you can also use it at anytime so it makes shrines way easier

Creating a smoke cloud with a puffshroom is also the easiest way to deal with Lynels.
When they are stuck in the cloud, or if you are, they will just stand there, letting you shoot them in the face and stun them.

Definitely go with fusing frozen meat to a shield for optimal shield surfing (and rail grinding). Bomb and rocket shields work in a pinch, but bomb shields cannot negate fall damage from great heights. Fusing Talus hearts to shields provide lasting protection, damaging parries, heat/cold protection, parries that could burn/freeze attacking enemies, the ability to light fires and cooking pots with a quick shield parry, and so on (not good for shield surfing nor rail grinding). Haven't tried the healing shield yet, but it looks promising...

Not mentioned about the Wing-shield fusion: The shield jump with this fusion let's you enter bullet-time with your bow for a short time. Great for hitting weak points and eyes!

Frost emitter on the Hylian shield is so insanely OP. Almost nothing can touch you but lynels and main story bosses.

fusing a shield to something like the Biggoron Sword is pretty good since you can just buy more of them from the bargainer statues once you find it, and it already has pretty high damage

Gemstone shields can actually parry to activate damage, however you cannot parry as an offense and instead parry an attack to make it activate like blocking. You can do the same thing with anything that activates upon blocking. Also, with light dragon parts, I highly suggest putting them on a weapon instead of a shield. The weapon will last longer than the shield because shields can lose durability by other means than hitting.

If you activate shield surge and switch to paragliding with a cannon or one of the emitters fused to your shield, it will activate it and fire it in a downward direction.

wing on your shield allows you to go into bullet time

The wing shield is awesome because you can get bullet time anywhere with it, but it’s multi use unlike bombs and springs

Theres a really easy glitch, where uou stand on top of a shock emitter, hit to activate, quickly pause, play one memory, exot right away, and now your zonia devices will be powered on uour back. I use a fan, i van get around with tripple the glide distance.

You can also use sleds on grassy environments because its just a friction reduction and isnt reliant on sand or snow.

Link wading through melee battles to heal himself with light dragon parts becomes just a little bit closer to his inevitable future as the Doomslayer.

There's utility to the smokescreen beyond escape. Enemies caught in the smokescreen are susceptible to sneakstrikes.
