How Halloween is DIFFERENT in Germany

Well, we do have Fasching / Karneval for the nonscary costumes.

Same in the UK. Scary is Halloween. But, the American thing seems to be leaking in.

As someone who’s always been a fan of all things spooky, I definitely side with the Germans! To me the whole point is boing scary! I think sexy or funny is fine too, but only if it’s also got something scary about it.

Sexy nurse? No. Sexy zombie nurse? Good.

Same! I live in Italy now and my pumpkins harvest theme decor came as a surprise to a lot of the locals. I think the girls dressed as Wednesday were probably the least scary thing I saw come to my door. And as a girl who had never been scary anything for Halloween all my life it was weird! My town is becoming a destination for Halloween for our whole mountain valley and I probably saw 50 plus witches. Weird. Like no imagination!

In the UK it's a mix. But I'm 26 and a mum of an 8 year old boy. I either go as a character that's typically not scary or something scary. Except this year I went as a Holy cow.

More popular since the 2000s I would say, we 90s kids only knew Halloween from movies

In Brazil and Portugal we have a separate holiday for dressing up in non-scary costumes, its called carnaval and usually has a parade
