1960. Quantico, Va. My father was an artillery and handgun instructor. As a young officer he volunteered to be the Quantico Marines Track Coach. Another “volunteer” job was MP Detail at night. Military Police Detail patrol the perimeter. He had to pick another “volunteer” to accompany him. During the patrol of the firing range area they saw an orange glow behind the target berm. They parked the Jeep and climbed up the berm on their stomachs like good Marines should, peaked over and saw a craft. A few “moments” later it zipped off into space. My father turned to his associate and said, “We saw nothing here.” They both understood that discussion would end their military careers. That Corporal was none other than one of his track stars who told funny stories on long bus trips to track meets. His name …Bill Cosby. My father told me this story around 1970. “Never repeat it until after I’m dead.” Sir, yes Sir! He died about 15 years ago. Too soon?

Thank you for this incredible interview!!! Just heartbreaking the silencing Mario experienced and the effects of it on everyone around him! And feeling the creepy anger from the higher ups, which is really fear cloaked as anger … I am so thankful people are coming forward now thanks to people like you who provide a safe space for them to do so!!! Would love to hear more re Mario’s experience(s). He has an amazing demeanor.

I REALLY enjoyed listening to Mario recount his story. He seems very sober, intelligent, and genuine, and his militaristic down-to-earth way of speaking reminds me of my own army dad's speech. His story is gripping, and at times chilling. Wonderful interview.

My son was stationed at Minot as a maintainer of B52s. It's amazing that they have lasted so long. He was reassigned to another air frame, but he doesn't like it as much. Thanks for such a great story!
