Jorge de Magallón - String Quartet no 13 in G, Op. 13 (1822)

Jorge Baltázar Ruiz Castillo de San Lorenzo y Magallón (Zaragoza, 1768 – Vienna, 1841) was a composer of the classical and early romantic period. He was born in Spain, but he spent the most of his life in Vienna. He is well-known by his 7 Symphonies, Flute Concertos, 16 String Quartets, his opera “Robespierre in ancient Egypt”, and numerous chamber music works.
Magallón's 13rd string quartet was composed after a journey of his to Greece (1821-22). He was inspired by greek christmas melodies and carols, and used them as themes in every one of the movements, and that's why it's called "The Christmas Quartet" (Weihnachtsquartet in german).
