• Innovv K3
• Thinkware M1
• Viofo MT1
• Techalogic DC-1
We look at image quality, audio, clarity, reliability and performance to find out which is the best choice for your motorbike. We'll also be looking at whether a hard-wired dashcam, or a helmet-mounted camera is the best bet, plus how to mount a dash-cam on a motorcycle, and whether they're worth the money.

Hey mate, Filmographer here and I thought I would weigh in on the brightness you mentioned;
Digital cameras have a dynamic range and capture more detail in slightly dark areas, the camera footage may look dark to you but the information is still there and with free software you can run the footage through and brighten it all up nicely. It is actually easier to edit it when slightly under exposed.

I gave you a like for the overview but not for the products. They still seem to be in their developmental infancy when it comes to technology and video quality. We gladly pay twice as much for cameras (read: GoPros) that are far less useful, and which won't be running a fraction of the time a dash cam will.

As far as I am concerned a dash cam must be able to do fewer things but do them better: Be solidly built; turn on when the bike is switched on and vice versa (with a lag); have high quality video day and night; have 360 degree field of vision; notify when lens is dirty (my mobile phone does that).

Forget about good microphone while riding and apps that can edit or other fancy things. The dash cam should be about documentation in case of accidents. We have the GoPros for movie making.

Great honest helpful review as always. I have used an Innov for nearly 3 years (front only ) on my xsr 900 but don't use the sound. Hard wired it to my bike and found it good.

It's great that dash cams come with lovely 50s music in the background.

Another wonderful review. What is mind blowing to me is, we can achieve such clear and precise images on a smartphone or GoPro but yet these camera are still stuck in 2009 with 1080p all while being HARDWIRED. blows my mind. Never understood this

Techalogic cam has been rebranded more times than I can count. I have a version of it in Australia. It's pretty good although the battery degrades quickly and the mounts are shite

18:00 I got to this point waiting for a valid, quality solution. but.. that's it?! Excellent video, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I am so disappointed Blackvue doesn't make a motorcycle camera. I'm willing to pay $1000, I just need it to be 100% reliable with audible audio. I guess I'm asking too much.

My use for motorcycle dash cams is simply to record an incident if I need to prove fault. On when the bike is on, off when it's not. Loop recording so I don't need to give it a second thought. For vlogging, I use a Cambox V4 Pro.

Nice review John and good to see you at the NEC last week (the TVP copper). Definitely agree that a dash cam is a must these days...

I had an accident on my Africa Twin the night before Thanksgiving. It destroyed my bike. I broke my left leg in 4 places including a compound fracture that required a rod from my knee to ankle. I broke my left arm in 2 places. I shattered my right heel and tore ligaments in my right knee.

The vehicle in front of me put their left turn signal on, started to turn left. I positioned my bike on the white line to pass them. As I did, the abruptly turned right, thus hitting me. He then lied to police and said he never signaled left. The lady in the car behind me stopped and gave the same story to police that I gave. Eventually the guy came clean. If I didn’t have the witness I would have been screwed. I’ve been out of going on 5 months now and just started learning how to walk again.

A long story but it taught me that I need some type of camera on my bikes to protect me going forward.

Been riding for years and had a cheap knockoff gopro for quite a while. I never liked using it even from the beginning because of how much it sticks out, and thus, stopped using it when the crappy batteries it came with withered away. Didn't know motorcycle dashcams existed until now, hence viewing this vid. Also, 3:42 got a chuckle out of me for those coords lol

I've been running for a couple of years now with a Mobius action camera on each end of the bike. Their USB cables run to a generic USB accessory/cigarette lighter adapter under my seat that is hooked to a switched power lead. $170US for both cameras, plus a 128GB card, so I can get days of footage on a card. There is no reason at all to select or push a button to save a clip. Just save it all and look it up based on timestamp. They just work. The video quality is better than the Inovv, and about on par with the others. No wifi, no app, no nonsense. Decent audio for conversations that often gets blown out by the exhaust on my absurdly loud bike. I've been searching for a better solution than this for a second bike, but it is pretty clear these dual camera systems are overpriced and overcomplicated by bells and whistles that don't do any good. It is really pretty easy to get a speed from video footage, and if the image is good, you know where you are. So, the GPS is pretty darned pointless for documentation purposes. With the Mobius, you can even pull the lens out of the camera body and extend it up to 16" with an adaptor cable. That and a 3D printed mount would let you mount the tiny thing anywhere. However, I've found them pretty easy to mount just as they are.

Ran the MT1 for just under a year before it started corrupting clips constantly - tried multiple SD cards but nothing seemed to fix it so eventually I just ripped it off the bike. Before that though it was a flawless experience and I'd still recommend for the price (Got mine for £180 on a black friday deal)

I can buy a £50 phone from carphone warehouse and it will probs have the same camera and audio quality of these dash cam. Unbelievable how much motorbike dash cams have not evolved.

Good honest review, thanks. As is mostly the case in life, no clear winner and it depends what you want and your budget.
