FOR SALE: Wigwam aka Our Dream Historic Home

Welcome to Laine's dream home. This beautiful historic treasure was originally built as a simple four room cottage in 1836. In 1858 it changed hands for the first time and major renovations began. What started as a simple home for four spinster sisters would become one of the finest examples of Italianate architecture in the South.

This exquisite showplace has changed hands 15 times during its existance, but no doubt the most exciting period of it's life was during the American Civil War. Union Troops created Fort McPherson on the bluff around Wigwams location. It was garrisoned by the Union officers as their headquaters, and photographs of the time show a motley crew on her steps.

Inside you'll find the most ornate plasterwok found in a city full of amazing plasterwork. The showstopper of the home is the ballroom, where a hand painted ceiling mural remains from the early remodel. Huge doors, high ceilings, cypress and heart pine floors and exraordinary cast iron work are only a few of the one of a kind features of this amazing home.

I love when you are driving through Natchez and everything is lovely - but you look over and see a house like this situated in the prettiest safe. It’s like a treasure hunt. ❤

Another EXCELLENT video. Thanks Laine and Kevin! On a personal note, my wife and I spent the first night of our honeymoon here in May 1977. It was then a BnB!

This home is a jewel box -- there is nothing less that can describe both the architecture and the architectural elements throughout this home.

Exquisite. This was one of my dear friend Hal’s restorations. I remember him telling me how he lamented over not being able to save the wall paintings in the ballroom. So much had deteriorated so badly. He loved that house so; but, there were so many more homes in Natchez that needed saving that he felt it was best to sell and move into the next one. Thank goodness he did. So many homes have his hand in their continued existence.

How is it these houses look tiny until I see Laine on the porch!? I think I've found my favorite house you've ever shown. 😍
I'm so proud of you two! I knew one day this would be your 'day job'! And soon enough you'll have a million subs! Don't forget us who've been here since the beginning!! I have a feeling you're going to blow up soon.
Loved the drone work!! 😊

I vote 'Favorite'...of all the houses you've shown, this light and airy home takes the cake. It's beautiful contemporary decor sympathetically compliments the ornate architectural detail - and can easily accommodate day-to-day living . No cramped dark rooms in this house - it is 'perfectly' proportioned. That bricked backyard outside space...speechless. It actually looks like it was picked up from Savannah, GA and placed there in Natchez. It's very special! Love It!

This home is perfection!! I love how the homeowner has used the beautiful warm white walls to make the spaces flow throughout the home. The antiques and original features are so tastefully juxtaposed with modern art and furniture pieces. It is all very nice indeed.

SHOUT OUT to Kevin ... I've been watching your videos for a few years now and I don't believe I've ever mentioned it before but his photography is mind blowing, just beautiful. I can't really find the words I'd like to use but those basically sum it up.

I know there are purists all around. On occasion, I might count myself among them, but my favorite style of home – any home – is one that encompasses elements and pieces from different periods of times. It’s always a good indication that a place and its occupants have a story and a life.

2 1/2 years ago we purchased an 1848 Italiante that has much of the character stripped of it. There are clues, such as the float 180 degree staircase and the 9 1/2 door rally solid chestnut door. The room that we use as the living room is 26' x16' and I suspect was at one time a ball room. It has irregularly width flooring like you shown, but is chestnut.

This home is the absolute best home I have EVER seen.
I love how the owners combined modern touches such as art along with the antique features. Old homes don’t need to look “ period correct” in styling.
The neutral color scheme is also a refreshing break away from traditional Victorian jewel tones.
Its fabulous!!!

Wow, just wow. The attention to detail in this house is just so exquisite. You don’t see houses like this anymore. The architecture and the add-ons were fabulous. I would totally be happy here.
