There were people willingly coming out of retirement and offering to come in to work after the tragedy. Master craftsman that'd been retired sometimes for decades. They wanted to restore it to its original glory. Absolutely gorgeous workmanship. Very excited to see it when it's done. There's an interview with some of the craftsman and it's really interesting what lengths they went to to uphold it's original designs.

$750M is certainly a lot of money, but more has been spent on things less valuable in our history. The finish and opening will be a memorable day not just for France, but for the entire world.

They've done a great job in 5 years when you think how long these projects used to take, generations.

Both Sagrada Familia and Notre Dame were under renovations when I visited in 2012, I was told it was an ongoing thing for both of them, so no one would have been surprised if it was still being renovated 50 years from now. There's a bridge here in Louisiana that's very famous called the Hale Bogs bridge and as long as I've been alive, I know of very few times it wasn't under construction.

Even in USA Jurnalist can't manage to give precise informations, unbelievable !
No she is not "nearly" finish, the stage III of rebuilding is ALMOST finished and will be on December (Roof, Spire and masonnery). Afterward stage IV will start and will be completeted at the end of 2027.
The Cathedral can be limitedly reopen on December but there is still a lot of finishing jobs to do on stage IV

So sad that it just has been burning again just few days later. Who is responsible for this?

Most of what is left is now for the stone masons. The recreation of the vaulted transept. Where every piece must be correctly cut and fitted, or the entire transept ceiling will come crashing down. Then the temporary supports will need to be removed n this is when the prayers begin. Vaulted ceilings are notorious for failing in gothic churches. This is why it will take longer, but the world wants it to be done correctly and not fail. Any French politician 5gat has a problem with this should find other work. Preferably digging ditches.
