What I love the most about anime openings is that when you first watch them, they're entertaining. After you watch the series, they become nostalgic.

Why is
*Mechs + War Crimes + Politics* always such a good combination for Anime?

I love how this opening evolves when some people dies. Opening changes at 0:24 and 1:20. At 0:24, there is so much people but it decreases when they die and finally we get only 5 people. At 1:20, there is only 3 people but it increases as people dying. It's a good detail to see.

Do you know why the song is called three minutes and thirty seconds? That is the average life expectancy of a armoured vehicle in combat. The crew has only that time to make all the correct decisions to stay alive or die just as quickly.

The only other series that hits like this is *Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.* This series just keeps getting better and better with its second half.

Okay, I don't know if anybody has said this elsewhere on the internet, but at 0:50 we see a real-world map, highlighting Tunisia in North Africa. Tunisia is famously where the ancient city of Carthage was built and the seat of its power. Seeing as the series centers around them fighting an enemy known as the "Legion, " I feel like it is safe to interpret this map as implying San Magnolia or the 86 are Carthage, Lena as the analogue to Hannibal Barca, and the Legion as Rome, Carthage's historical archrival.
