They are similar dynamically to a dust haboob. Sometimes the storm disappears while the roll cloud persists over a long distance.

The winds are absolutely crazy right now in Chicago. A 40 foot tree just barely missed falling on our house. We just moved in here 6 days ago too!

Those are "morning glory" clouds. i saw my first & only one south of Seattle; it literally stretched from the southern horizon to the northern without a single break in it. A roll cloud, like with a supercell storm, is different.

I've been out fishing and had those things roll over us. Turns into a complete white out and did not clear. We ended up navigating home using the depth finder.

I once rode one in a glider, it was the fastest updraft with my variometer maxed out. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

I live in the Netherlands and I encounter one 17 years ago I think. It was my mom 50th birthday and we were outside.
It started with a sunny and warm day and ended with wind and rain.
When the roll cloud arrived the wind and rain was insane.

Roll clouds are pretty cool, I'm more of a Shelfcloud fan, that sharp ram scoop on the lead edge dividing colder outflow air with hot rising air being forced upwards, but where I live they rarely get tornadic. Especially with our second tornado season in the Great Lakes in mid fall. It's still not over, unless we convince ourselves the climate isn't changing at a rapid rate.

I hadn't seen or knew what one was as I grew up on the plains in Alberta. We had some of these roll over in the early morning back in the late '90s. Was freaky for me lol

There was a large series of roll clouds that passed through Australia several years ago, I remember seeing it in the news, it might have been that above shot from the plane idk. But ever since then i've always wanted to see one with my own eyes 😍

As someone whose been in a tornado, I'm a bit disappointed in the clickbait headline for this short.

Every time I see these roll clouds I get hungry. Reminds me of Little Debbie Swiss Rolls without the chocolate.

This is not a sideways tornado. What you're seeing in the video is horizontal roll cloud and the only way you're seeing rotation is because the videographer is under it. They are often associated with damaging straight-line wind events - such as derechos.

I saw one form once
A shelf cloud was moving across the bottom of a storm, then it reached the edge and detached into a roll cloud
