I have learned to watch your videos with "notepad" open, so I can add books to my "Books I Need to Read" list. That list has gotten very long thanks to you (and Daniel Greene and Merphy Napier). Thank you! I really love this channel! Hope you have a wonderful New Year! :)

Absolutely loved House of Salt and Sorrows! Especially because of Poe references and Poe-esque dark and morbid feeling to it 💜

"House of Salt and Sorrows" is my favorite recommendation from you this year. Haven't quite finished. I'm going to try to have it done before midnight!

[UPDATE]: finished at 10:40 PM EST with an hour and twenty minutes to spare. After starting, I realized I had a little bit more to finish than I remembered; 250 pages (about 63%). Can say I still liked it despite having had read less than half at the time I initially assessed it.

So happy you like Vinland Saga! I feel it really needs more attention and popularity since it’s so good!

Oh and good list! Happy new year!

Malazan is a series that begs you to read it multiple times. As you progress, you learn things that alter your perception/understanding of events and characters in earlier books. It is such a deeply layered and complex series. The downside is that it's not an easy read and requires patience and focus from the reader. But if you can stick with it the payoff is huge. I've yet to find a fantasy series that is as epic in scale as Malazan, and I include WoT in that ! ( Stormlight Archives could get there once B.S has finished the last book )

I loved the Rithmatist when I read it. I loved Joel's character arc in that book. It was so satisfying for so many reasons.

As for The Girl The Sea Gave Back, I definitely think the flashbacks were more for people who had read Sky In The Deep. That's where you see the majority of the characters that we loved from that story. Sky in The Deep was one of my favorite reads this year but The Girl The Sea Gave back was a little lackluster for me, other than the fact that the main male character is one of my favorites from the first book. I hope you'll go back and read Sky, I think you'll enjoy it =)

In reference to The Girl the Sea Gave Back, you should definitely read Sky in the Deep to get more enjoyment out of the second one. The guy main character is introduced in book one, and he becomes the male perspective in book two. Book one also helps you understand why the world is in it's current condition in book 2 (book 2 picks up 10 years after the conclusion of book 1). I really hope the author writes another book in this world! I find her writing really beautiful.

I tried "the blade itself" and it was amazing from the beginning but after the middle I had a hard time to break away form it!
I'm definitely going to continue it.
Reading about Glokta kind of make me feel like I would be as strong in withstanding the pain as he was:)

I adored Serpent and Dove, I thought it was the best book I have received from my Fairy loot box this year, I am very though I have four books I need to read from this year's boxes.

You definitely need to read Butcher's Codex Alera series. I'd never read any of his other books, not even Dresden, so I had no idea how good of an author he is. I have devoured this series. I'm on the last book and will be sad when it is done.

I had the same thought as you did in reference to Gardens of the Moon. I gave the second book a go and only made it about halfway through before giving up. I think the main issue I had with the series is that Steven Erikson throws SO much at you so quickly...and because of this nothing seemed to flow very well. Just felt jumbled.

Review the dragon Republic please! I know the previous one wasn't your favorite book which is a sentiment I don't necessarily share, but this one feels even better than the last.

If you want to give Rick Riordan another try you should definitely check out Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. As you said yourself, there's nothing wrong with a book being less mature, but Magnus Chase I think does a great job at appealing to all ages - the characters are a lot older as well, which might contribute to that - and is in my opinion Rick Riordan's best work so far!
